The Ontario corn is available now.
I bought some this week, at an indie market in St Thomas. It has been sweet, thanks to the heat.

Bought some Ontario cherries this weekend, which were great.
I recently bought Ontario cherries and they were almost flavourless. Where did you get yours?
Just at my local no frills, in a plastic shell container. They were smaller than west coast ones, but quite dark and sweet.
I have been having good luck with cherries this year, too.
I even saw some Ontario Rainier cherries this week, in London.
I bought some New Brunswick apricots and Quebec strawberries at my greengrocer on College Street.
Fiesta Farms is my usual larger grocery store in Toronto for local produce during the summer.
My own sour cherries had a short season. I finished picking them on Sunday. All finished.
Black currants are in season.
The first Ontario peaches arrived in St Thomas yesterday.
Same with my box from Farm Boy … and a little softer than I prefer.
Looking forward to Ontario Asian Pears … can’t remember when they’re out. I usually buy at Costco.
They usually show up a bit later in the summer, August into early September, depending on the weather. I’ve seen them at Costco before too, but sometimes smaller grocers have a wider selection when the season really kicks in. Hopefully not too long now!
Thank you! I prefer to wait for the Ontario ones. Same goes for asparagus and corn.
I found local corn at my LdnOnt Superstore today.
It was sold out by 3 pm at my indie market in LdnOnt.
I found local carrots, cauliflower and broccoli at my local market today.
At Remark Market in LdnOnt.
My first homegrown eggplant of 2025 is big enough to pick today.
Metro has Ontario corn on sale for $0.25/ear this week. No guff.

My Superstore in LdnOnt had plastic wrapped corn imported from some warehouse in the GTA, as well as loose local corn in a big bin.
Definitely seek out the corn still in the husks if you can. Weirdly, the plastic wrapped inferior and more expensive corn was in a visible location, right as shoppers enter the produce department, and the loose corn was in a big bin at the end of the produce department, near the freezers and bread section, at the end of the produce section. The employee was stocking it when I got there. These a discount if more than 5 cobs are purchased.
Only a dedicated shopper is going to know to keep looking after seeing the plastic wrapped corn. LOL
Metro is supposed to have the pitted sour cherries in a pail that they carry for one week a year, but my local one doesn’t seem to have it I love sour cherries, hate to the pit them.
Farm Boy sometimes has had the same pail available. I saw them last summer, not sure how long they are stocked.
The Niagara peaches I purchased at Farm Boy in North LdnOnt this week are perfect.
$8.99 for 3 litres. This particular basket was grown by Dutchyn Farms.
On the cardboard baskets, the source orchard is either stamped on side of the basket, or printed on the handle.
No frills has corn at the price of $0.16 per cob. So we have been eating corn daily. Also, dill cucumbers are in.
That’s a great price. I’m glad No Frills is using that as a loss leader to let people in the city get some seasonal corn at a good price.
I have been paying around 6 for $4 at Farm Boy this week. and $10 per dozen at our local corn grower’s stand or farmers market. The size is highly variable this year. Some of the farm stand cobs are 35 cm long.
My own corn crop isn’t doing that well this year. My fault - adjusted the soil in a major way and it wasn’t quite right when I planted corn in May. Only around 8 stalks, from 70 seeds planted, came up and it isn’t ready yet.
I bought Ontario corn from Metro last week that was the worst I’ve ever had. It tasted like metal and was quickly consigned to the compost bin.
Hopefully the farm stands start carrying corn soon.
Metro stores vary. I’m lucky to live near one of their best.
At Highland Farms Scarborough yesterday, I picked up 5 cobs of Ontario corn for $6. Cooked two up last night on the bbq. These are as large and moist as later season corn. Really impressive. Not sure how HF does it.
