Oakland: French patisserie finally opens brick & mortar

Super exciting! Tarts de Feybesse, the highly regarded French patisserie, has finally made into a brick-and-mortar site in Oakland! Opens Nov. 17, 2024. Tarts de Feybesse will be one of the Bay Area’s most serious bakeries, with classic techniques and hard-to-find French specialties. “We’re not going to do croissants,” said Monique Feybesse, who owns the business with her husband, Paul Feybesse. Both have solid credentials and will be offering sweet and savory pastries, some with tropical flavors to honor Monique’s Filipino heritage. Note all seating is outdoors: [free link] https://www.sfchronicle.com/tarts-de-feybesse-bakery

9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. 324 24th St., Oakland.
Website: https://www.tartsdefeybesse.com/ – and there is already a Yelp page with photos (the Feybesses have been running a home business since 2016, doing their pastries by on-line order for pick-up): https://www.yelp.com/biz/tarts-de-feybesse-oakland?osq=Tarts+de+Feybesse

Man those trompe l’oiel oranges and lemons are crazy realistic, but I was expecting bigger payoff when I cracked it open. It just had whipped cream and a bit of orange in the center. Would be a nice trick to play on someone, but not for $14. The coconut/raspberry thing was great. The caramel eclair was just pretty good. Strawberry glazed eclair was pretty good. Overall, I didn’t find the pastries to be quite at the level of B Patisserie or Arsicault taste-wise. The bread looked good.
