Any thread I open to look at starts off as normal, then becomes a thread I track.
However, I’d like to have the choice whether I want to track a thread or not – not have it the default option I need to change back to normal.

If you scroll down to the end of the thread (right below the “Bookmark,” “Share,” etc. buttons you’ll see a button that shows your tracking status of the thread.
Just click on “Tracking” and select “Normal.”
You can go to your user preference (click on the avatar). There is a setting there that says ‘Automatically track topics I enter’. The default is 4 minutes. You can set it to something else.
Yah, I know I can do that. I was hoping to set it so that I don’t have to do that 
But I changed it in my settings now, so Labor Day Weekend will be even awesomer. '-)
