I’m wondering if anyone has a tried-and-true recipe for non-alcoholic sangria they might recommend? I was thinking about a pitcher as a festive, non-boozy option for when some friends stop in at the holidays. I have seen some recipes that call for lemon-lime soda, but I’d rather steer clear of sugary soda.
Just use alcohol free red wine. And leave out the brandy, unless you can easily lay your hands on one of the alcohol free versions (several exist in my part of the world) - or just don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a bottle.
Thanks! Perhaps surprisingly, I have actually never used/tasted alcohol-free wine. But with all the tasty fruit I would use in a sangria, this might well be my moment to give it a try.
What @Harters said.
And Dali’s regular red sangria uses club soda, not sweetened sodas. Would that work for the effervescence?
Thanks, @LindaWhit! Yep, fizzy water of some kind is my go-to. I sip, and have served, sparkling water with a splash of fruit juice on the regular. Want to offer something to our friends that feels a little fancier for the holidays.
What about an NA mule? Ginger beer is nice & kicky.
They’ve got better in recent years. Suggest buying one that’s a named grape variety, rather than a generic “red” - they tend to be better quality. No idea about the alcohol free brandy, I’m afraid - I’ve only experience with the gin substitutes.
Ooohh, I do like ginger beer. And we have some kitschy glass holiday mugs that could be fun to use for this (if I can still find ‘em). I could even make big cocktail-sized ice cubes of ginger beer with a mint leaf inside.
Ooh, you fancy! I think that’s a swell idea!
Speaking of mint, the hotel we stayed at in Cyprus did a really nice drink. A fairly sharp lemon cordial, diluted with soda water. Ice and lots of mint.
I’ve tried to replicate it at home but the cordial I’ve got is too sweet. I’m going to try again with something much sharper, like PLJ, or a Cypriot product I see online.
No idea if you’re near a Trader Joe’s, but they have a seasonal Wassail Punch (large jug, with the lemonade) that would fit the festive brief. It is pretty good with seltzer, and I’m now intrigued about combining it with ginger beer/ale.
It’s also v nice as a cocktail with bourbon, amaro, and a liile amaretto.
