No. 8 Restaurant, Burlington ON

First time trying out No. 8 Restaurant in Burlington. Have driven through the area many times but first time making a stop. If it weren’t for a friend’s recommendation, would never have find this place since it is not on any of the lists like Michelin or Canada’s 100 Best.

7-course tasting menu for $130 and wine pairing was an additional $90. Food takes cue from different cuisines around the world and each dish today was from a different country. More a restaurant where the chefs are having fun with food and basing their creations from previous personal experiences than one that espouses a certain philosophy or dogma. Interestingly, similar to Pearl Morissette, there are two head chefs here. One trained in Canada before spending time in China and another spent time in Denmark and the US.

Really enjoyed the food here and find most of the dishes nicely executed and well thought out in terms of flavor and texture. Personal favorite was the Strawberry Dessert with different layers of flavors built in like jasmine tea, elderflower and lemon verbena and yet one can taste each of the components. The sauce of the dumpling makes use of Chinese techniques to build the flavors and combined well with both the pea shoots and the dumpling. The food here would rival any of the MIchelin starred restaurants in the GTA and will come back to try another season for sure

Looks great!!
Sadly, it seems like nowadays, all the interesting and great restaurants are at least an hour and a half drive from my home!! …This one, The Pine, Pearl Morissette, Langdon Hall…etc :disappointed:
