New to Hungry Onion with plans to launch a floating restaurant

Thanks for pointing that out. :+1:

spicy take: this is a bot.

Incorrect. What makes you think that?

Oh man. I love farfel so much and I can’t get it around here. That sounds like a lovely menu. Is the “Croutons” in invert commas because they’re really gribenes?
We were just talking about gribenes on another thread and I have such a yen for them now.

Thank you for the kind words :grinning:
The croutons is actually deboned chicken cubes and roasted in the oven with a glaze thus making it crispy.
But thanks for the reminder about gribenes, it totally slipped my mind. Perhaps because i’m not such a fan of it…

Thank you

I would definitely not serve ice cream as dessert. It’s a very jarring contrast to the traditional Shabbat menu that you’re trying to achieve, even if you weren’t raised kosher. I’d serve fruit compote, honey cake or poppy streudel (no ice cream or whipped cream), and rugalech.

Thanks for your take. I actually love my compote with ice cream :shaved_ice:
Though poppy streudel is nice!

Great point!

When I used to eat Shabbat dinner at an Orthodox friend’s house, dessert was Tofutti Cuties.

My friend was convinced that they tasted exactly like ice cream with real dairy. She was incorrect.

Yeah, like the non-dairy whipped topping. Just like whipped cream, except it’s not. I’ve been to those meals. Don’t worry, I’m polite …

For unrelated to kosher law reasons, one of my aunts considers “ice cream” made with cool whip or other non dairy topping one of her specialties, and is convinced no one can tell the difference. Her signature flavor is ginger.

The item is indeed pretty tasty, and she’s not so far in believing most people actually can’t tell that it’s not dairy-based — but I think many of those who hang out here are not “most” people where food is concerned. (The first time I ate it something tasted “off” - I just didn’t know fake whipped cream existed then, so I couldn’t put my finger on it.)

Delicious!

There are some of us who have no choice but to live a life without dairy.

I quite like Tofutti Cuties (and did before my intolerance reared its vile head)…cocowhip and Truwhip are actually delicious.

Don’t yuck someone else’s yum (or only option).

True, but if you once had it you know what you are missing. I can tolerate small amounts of dairy. Like a tablespoon. So from time to time as I work my way through a bowl of vegan frozen dessert I will take a taste from my wife’s bowl of the real stuff. There’s no comparison. I then sadly go back to my bowl of oatmeal frozen stuff. Not bad but not even close to the good stuff.

I’m not yucking your yum.

I didn’t find Tofutti Cuties delicious. I found them inedible.

I don’t think I would seek out a canal boat for a dining destination.

Thank you so much for sharing your opinion!
Is it because a canal boat doesn’t interest you? or another reason?
