New seafood from former owner of Legal Seafood

Roger Berkowitz sold the Legal Seafood chain several years ago, later founding Roger’s Seafood, a retail delivery service. Now, in a couple of months, he will be supplying his own brand of seafood to Market Basket.
I was unclear about whether or not this is prepared seafood or raw.

Thanks for this! I look forward to learning more.

The next day, host Jim Braude began the program b apologizing that in their enthusiasm for the double.clam chowder, they neglected to mention the other dishes in the works. But again, no details as to whether these meals will just require reheating, or consumer prep.

Interesting find! Perhaps what will be sold at MB will be an extension of what’s offered at his Roger’s Fish Co (mentioned in the original post)?

Sourcing was a strength of Legal Seafood in the Berkowitz era, so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with this.

I had forgotten that the double clam chowder was to debut a few months ago, but noticed it at the Tewksbury, MA, Market Basket the other day. BIG THUMBS UP! Clams are the first (ergo, main) ingredient. 620 calories in the 16 ounce container, sold refrigerated. $8.99. It says “manufactured for Roger’s Fish Company”, so sourcing is unclear.

The chowder is thick and chunky, very flavorful. I almost never add salt when I am cooking, although some of the seasoning blends I use do contain it. The entire container has 86% the RDA for sodium. If something has a lot of pepper, my taste buds get confused. More so, I think, with black pepper than hot pepper. This contains both. My palate seems to pick up too much salt, but my salt preference is on the low end of the scale. I had the whole container as a meal. I will definitely buy this again.

Also, I noticed that MB also has their own brand of refrigerated clam chowder, as well as Captain Parker’s. If (BIG if!) i can remember, come cooler weather I will get all three for a side by side comparison.

Ooh, thanks for reviving this. I’m a sucker for a good clammy clam chowder (New England style only, please). I’ll have to poke around their website more. I don’t think I’ve seen these at my local S&S, and there isn’t an MB closer to me.

Saw it as well and remembered this thread, so bought a container. It was very good, great clams and large pieces of clam as well. I’d get it again for sure.

Ironically, I thought the salt level was fine but I did add more black pepper LOL (I’m a fan of black pepper in my chowder.

Thanks for the post or i would have passed over it.
