New Krispy Krunchy Chicken in Mission District, SF

Since @ernie_in_berkeley was nice enough to mention my review for the newest KKC in the Mission, I thought I’d post it. As some may know, I write restaurant reviews for Mission Local, an online community news site.

This might be hyperbole to some, but for fast-food fried chicken, and even for some other venues, I rank KKC way up there in the pantheon of crispy fried yardbirds.

In any case, this was a short, fun one to write, and to my surprise, their publicity company reached out to me as they liked the review (which isn’t even 100% positive). and offered me some KKC swag! Much as I’m curious to know what that entails (a t-shirt? a tote? a chicken-shaped hat?), i declined.

This is my favorite line in your review:

“If it ain’t KKC, it ain’t fried chicken. Fight me.“

Here on the East Coast, I have been assiduously ignoring the KKC that recently opened near our house. Your review has me rethinking my stance.

I grabbed a snack from this location yesterday after a masa run at La Palma. It was my first time trying KKC. I got a 2 piece with a drumstick and a thigh for $8.99, which comes with a biscuit. The biscuit had blueberries in it.

I thought the chicken was good. The dark meat was moist and flavorful. The thigh was quite large. The skin was also good but not super Krispy nor Krunchy, perhaps due to the time of my bus ride home before I ate it. Like you I also found the blueberry biscuit a bit odd, but it was actually a nice mini dessert after the chicken.

it’s a dangerous habit to get into, in my opinion. but i hope you enjoy it!

These are stand alone locations? Up here ours are all attached to gas stations.

Same. We actually took a detour to get to one coming from PGH. It was part of a small gas station near a reactor :scream:

Chicken wasn’t all that great, unfortunately, either. Might depend on the location :woman_shrugging:t2:

Both of the locations in Berkeley and one in Richmond are in convenience stores. I think mine yesterday wasn’t K&K because it was an off hour, 3:30PM, and it had been sitting for a while. Other times, it’s been crackly crisp.

they’re usually inside convenience store/gas stations, but a number have popped up over the years that are stand-alone.
