Elsewhere on this board, we agreed to keep it positive and not call out names of those doing it “wrong” during these difficult times. It may be a bit of a gray area… I should have taken pictures. I will be sure to moving forward. Note that I did for Beach Tavern.
“keeping it positive” and “not calling out names” seem to me to be two entire different things. A review, be it good, bad, or indifferent without naming the establishment seems … well … silly,
And if we want to keep it all positive then we should change the board’s name to “Pollyanna”.
I don’t think it’s fair to share those details (which sound 110% legit) without naming the restaurant. Your description of what happened is exactly what so many of us fear!
!!! I replied before seeing your response.
Okay then. It was Trama’s, West End. I emailed the restaurant immediately after posting here. I will update if/when I hear back.
There’s a difference between bashing and criticism. If you or anyone else is going to write a detailed report then yes, I agree with @The_Happy_Wizard in that the restaurant’s name should be mentioned.
We are not a bunch of Karen’s here. We don’t usually complain about nonsense. Your complaints were valid and knowing the integrity of the Trama restaurant brand/name, I am sure they will appreciate you contacting them.
Another horrible experience grabbing take out tonight. Walked in to grab takeout; 8 workers, 2 with masks pulled down and 2 with no mask on whatsoever. This with about 5 customers in a somewhat small inside space all lined up at the counter bc nobody was maintaining any order.
Getting really tired of hearing these restaurants complain about how tough they have it when they can’t be bothered to keep their customers safe. I’ve noticed places are walking back curbside or making it seem like not necessary too. Really ruining it for the ones doing it right. I’m starting to lose way too many places to eat going fwd.
This would be ever so much more useful if only …
You said exactly what I was thinking; other social media platforms are full of (constant) complainers! I read HO because I’ve come to know and trust many of our posters (in person or just from years of reading). I’d think that our conversations here are more productive than those on Yelp or NextDoor.
If it’s bad enough to report, it’s bad enough to document.
Monday is date day as we close the store Mondays. It does make it challenging to find spots for an outdoor lunch as many, many places are closed on Mondays.
Thinking we would pick up some food for a picnic nearby, today we found ourselves at The French Market in Rumson. I was thankful we took the Jeep as we parked in their pothole filled parking lot. Expert tip - Park on the street if you are concerned about your car clearing the bumps!
We were surprised by the number of outdoor tables they had set up so we modified our plans and grabbed a table. The depth of their menu was also surprising. They had sandwiches of all sorts, hot and cold, salads, quiche, crepes, omelets, grain bowls, french toast, and various and sundry baked goodies and coffees.
For lunch we got a croissant with ham, cheese, and bechamel, and a “French Market” grain bowl that had some wonderful figs in it. We also got a grilled chicken caeser salad, quiche with goat cheese, and a few sweets to go.
All in all, a very nice find. Aside from a few stray flocks of children bicycling by unmasked and one small flock going inside semi-masked, everyone followed safety protocols.
Sounds great except for THAT… SIGH.
That store is so adorable. Right out of a magazine.
You say flocks…I’d say herds.
No reply as yet.
From the owners? Wow…interesting and unexpected honestly. I know you are a fan of theirs, without getting to personal do they know you personally? I would reach out again, that’s very unusual if you ask me. I’m not a big fan, but I do respect them and what they have done / built. (FYI I’ve never been to Long Branch, only Sea Bright but after there was already “trouble in paradise” and One Willow, I do want to give this location a shot some day)
After reading the post by @seal, Justin and I had lunch at The French Market today on our first full day off together in a week. Full review coming soon, but we enjoyed it very much. Only four socially distant tables (including one large family who found it necessary to take three chairs from a nearby table to use for themselves rendering that table useless) but we ended up getting a seat. The wait for food was long because of how busy they were, but they threw in two chocolate croissants and thanked us for waiting.
We each had a sandwich: his with ham, brie, and fig. Mine with dry French sausage, butter, and cornichons. The bread was amazing.
If the chair pictured in the last photo are the chairs they have for dining in, I can assure you I can never eat there. lol
Glad you enjoyed.
Did you see those huge chocolate chip cookies?
My son’s favorite dessert, so I warily brought one home thinking cookies so big couldn’t be good. I had a bite and it was excellent!
I don’t know them personally. We’ve had many divine dinners in West End/Long Branch. One Willow was meh each and every time. I don’t see the purpose of contacting them again. Their actions and lack of response speak louder than words. I speak with my wallet.
