New items you’ve purchased at the grocery store

I don’t think we even have celebrity frozen foods n Canada!

We have a couple Canadian chefs and restaurants selling frozen foods which are usually okay.

That said, Ryan Reynolds currently has given his name to some scrambled egg potato bowl at Tim Hortons, which is ready to eat, rather than frozen. Which I probably will never try. LOL.

But you may have frozen celebrities from time to time. :snowman_with_snow::cold_face:

True.

There was a Celebrity Cooks tv show in the 70s. I have the cookbook and it includes some recipes from some Canadian celebrity ice skaters. That’s pretty close to a frozen Canadian celebrity.

My God I saw a few faces there … well, let’s just say, I now feel really old …

Chuck Hughes, Martin Picard, Ricardo, all Quebec chefs, available at all grocery stores, at least in Quebec.

Just realized the airlock won’t work with the deli container. Maybe I will use an appropriately sized jar, but will continue any exploits on the fermented pickle thread.

Good call w/ the jar.

I may follow you down the rabbit hole.

Absolutely ridiculous. Most celebrities have no shame nowadays. Some need the money and some don’t. And you know what… I could care less.

This makes for a delish dipping sauce for most anything — I used it with roti chicken that wasn’t as juicy as on the first day of purchase, but I could see it over steamed broc, or grilled veg. It’s even better combined with a little bit of my favorite Vietnamese kumquat hot sauce (or chili crisp for those who don’t have access to this magic ingredient).

Oooooo. Sounds like my next " need."

I wish I remembered where in town I picked this up, tho  :upside_down_face:

The Asian market I recently went to carries the small size I linked, but I got a big one… somewhere, and foresee needing a new bottle soon

Curious to hear what you think about it, and how you put it to use.

I purchased Arahova tzatziki in Ontario last week.

Arahova is a small chain of Greek souvlaki and gyro restaurants in Montreal. I was excited to see their tzatziki available.

Unfortunately, it’s too salty for me. I like the Better Than Yia Yia’s brand more.

These aren’t new by any means, but new to me. I bought some Tokyo Banana from my local HMart, and these things aren’t bad! I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, except that they’d be a little bit bigger. Not too sweet, good banana flavor. I’ve heard that these are popular snacks, souvenirs or gifts for JP travelers, but I’ve never tried them.

Turning the table a bit, but I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with these coconut pieces at Sprouts Market. I’m going there later and recall that their fresh coconuts are in the full husk, so maybe more of a challenge than just the shell I normally hammer into submission. TIA

Trader Joe’s mint chip ice cream – very rich and well balanced. My kid is newly obsessed.

Doritos Blazin’ Buffalo with Ranch – eh. Not my favorite by a long shot.

We tried these frozen green onion pancakes today. Very good.

It’s available at T + T, as well as Loblaws and other Weston stores in Canada

Four brands of ghee:
Ancient Organics (most expensive of the four but worth it, IMO)

Servio (available at Walmart, fairly inexpensive but a big step down in flavor from Ancient Organics, Sporked liked this best of the ghees they tried but they didn’t try Ancient Organics for some reason.)

4th & Heart and Organic Valley (another big step down from Servio to these two though i could see their usefulness if cooking with them and not wanting the ghee to affect the flavor of the dish much)

Several frozen pizzas:
Sprouts Three Meat (I thought this one was fairly good)

Sprouts Classic Pepperoni (A little bland, there are better cheaper pepperoni pizzas)

bettergoods Mushroom & Truffle (Walmart’s better store brand, this one was just okay, i haven’t found a really good frozen mushroom pizza, Private Selection is what i usually get and will continue to get.)

Natural Grocers Champignon Mushroom and Tomato (okay but not one i’d buy again)

Heggies Sausage & Pepperoni (not bad but not really worth the money either)

Urban Pie Uncured Pepperoni with Creamy Rosa Sauce (pretty good, the rosa sauce is sort of in between marinara and alfredo sauce, i might buy that one again if i catch it on sale)

Surfer Boy Stranger Things Combination (sausage, pepperoni, and Hatch chile, I didn’t really detect the Hatch chile as Hatch chile but the overall flavor is good with a bit of heat, this one is let down enough by the crust that I wouldn’t buy it again)

Safeway has a premium store brand mushroom pizza i plan to try soon, and Sprouts carries a couple of mushroom pizzas (Sprouts brand and Porta.) I hadn’t looked at the frozen pizza selection at Sprouts until recently. They have some pricey possibilities including some more Porta, Urban Pie, and Vicolo varieties i’ll probably get around to trying eventually.

My other recent find was Private Selection cookies over in the bakery area of my Kroger affiliate. They’re large and I think six to a box. I’ve bought the box with an assortment, and they were all pretty good. I also bought a box of the toffee pecan chocolate chunk cookies after that. Those are going to be a problem for me. I’m going to have to restrain myself.
