New items you’ve purchased at the grocery store

Chocolate hazelnut is still the clear winner of the three flavors I’ve tried. I’d rate brownie batter a bit below German chocolate cake.

If you see these, buy them. I got at Ocean State Job Lot for $3.49/box (4 servings of 4 wrapped cookies per serving), but they seem to go for $4.50 - $6.00/ box online. In my immediate area, it looks like Roche Bros., Whole Foods, and some specialty markets, like cheese shops and specialty butcher marketplaces. Gonna be a lot more pricey at those places, so I’ll stick with OSJL!

Extra buttery, light on the caramel, but enough to know.

A “where to buy” link here: https://pierre-biscuiterie.com/ with 8 different flavors.

YAYYYYYY!!! Is it the shiznit or what? So full of kronchy, toasty hazelnuts, and A River Runs Through It… a river of NUTELLA that is!

Well…I must have gotten a bad batch, nuts were soft, there was no river. Meh. :disappointed: I’ll probably still try the German chocolate cake but the Caramel Toffee Crunch is still my fav.
A River Runs Through It, one of my favorite movies.

Not new, but new to me. Prima Taste Laksa noodles, available at T &T grocery store in Toronto.

Very good. A little heavier on the shrimp paste than I like, but probably quite authentic. I also purchased a curry noodle by Prima Taste that I haven’t tried.

A HUGE pre sliced hunk of Mexican cheesecake from the La Bonita Supermarket chain here in Las Vegas. It easily weighed a pound and only cost $2.99. I was worried I wouldn’t like it because I find that many cheesecakes have lemon juice in them and I dislike that. However, this had no lemon juice and was EXCELLENT! Very creamy and light with a tart-like crust. Because this was such a HUGE piece, I only had 1/3 of what you see here.

I will definitely buy some of this again! And yes, I made sure to walk enough to be able to eat this…8.3km/5.15mi !

Rice flakes, a new-to-me type of rice noodle purchased as a possible replacement for fresh ho fun. I’ll report back once I’ve tried them, but for now, has anyone ever cooked with these?

Dunno if this was a holiday special item or whether it’s available all year round. I was familiar with all the flavors, save for the cappuccino one, which is delightful.

If I had to rank them, it would be

Rocher
Raffaello
Manderly/Giotto
Cappuccino
Rondnoir

They’re all tasty.

I bought some shrimp and burrata ravioli at Metro yesterday. Not sure how I’ll sauce them. Maybe with fresh basil and a white wine sauce.

Also bought some Philip’s refrigerated crab, not sure what I’ll make with that.

Wegmans. Purchased about 4 weeks ago. Tried it tonight. REALLY good. Not overly aged cheddary, but a really good cheddar; slight (very slight) crystallization. Will buy again.

I just saw these Thai Chili Tuna snack cans. $1.79 on sale, $2.49 regular. 80 calories, no fat, 16 g protein and you can actually taste a hint of Thai chili in them.
Not great but not bad. I may buy more next time. Not a bad late night snack.

I love Thai flavors, but… adding them to canned tuna wouldn’t have crossed my mind in a million years, TBH :scream:

“Bitchin” my ass. This was a meh-jor disappointment.

I’ve tried some of the Thai flavoured tuna, not bad.

I also made some Asian tuna bowls in 2020 that were pretty good.

The ingredients look … like a recipe for heartbreak. Not heartburn. It’s a sauce? A dip? The watered-down bastard child of almond butter and fake hummus??

I didn’t purchase these. Someone in my building did.

Just saw this - it’s one of the reasons why I like this version of laksa, it has decent shrimp paste flavor. I get it’s a funk that not everyone enjoys, but I love shrimp paste when added judiciously into dishes. I can tolerate a good amount of shrimp paste and belacan funk. It’s similar with char kway teow (the popular street noodle dish from Singapore and Malaysia) - it’s best when it’s got the good shrimp paste flavor mixed in.
