Too lazy to cook, so I decided to have a casual family dinner of wok-hay stir fried from one of the myriads of nearby eateries. Ended up at the consistently reliable and value-for money neighbourhood joint - New Choice aka ’ Yun-Yun '.
Our party of starving 4 had the following:
-
Yang Chow Fried Rice ( Huge portion, great wok-hay and loaded with generous ingredients )
-
Stir fried Pig’s stomach tips with pickled mustard green and fermented black beans ( Seems funky and exotic to some ? But man! The taste and texture was so appealing and mouth watering )
-
Stir fried jumbo Razor Clams with yellowing Chives and Sweet Peas ( Perfectly timed, resulting in super tender, crunchy bi-valves morsels )
-
Sweet & Sour wok-seared Beef Short Ribs. ( Finger licking good! A nice change to the perennial ‘Sweet & Sour Pork’ favorite! )
-
Braised Mustard Green with Salted Turnips Strips, Mince Pork in Supreme Broth ( A non-greasy, delicate, refreshing and umami packed veggie dish )
-
Sha-Tin style Roasted Pigeon ( Reasonably priced but overall a disappointment! Slightly over-cooked and under seasoned! )
On the whole, a pretty enjoyable and well executed, humble and casual fare!
