Need recs to deliver food to a friend in Mahwah

Hi everyone, a dear friend’s wife just died and I would like to send some food to him. I’m on the opposite coast and don’t know the area where he lives very well. Optimistically it would be close to the Mahwah/Suffern area, to be delivered on Thursday. It could be a deli platter (stereotypical Jewish food) or anything else to sustain him in this difficult time, and beyond as much as possible.

Another friend suggested Zaro’s but the only locations I found in NJ were in Newark airport.

I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks.

I did this for a friend in Florida, by going to google maps, looking up the address, and searching for delis nearby – I called several to find one that could do a nice platter.

For Mahwah / Suffern, you can take a look at Seamless / GrubHub / UberEats for places in a delivery radius around his address, and take a look at the place on Yelp or Google Maps to see if looks like a place you’d want to buy from.

Zabar’s will deliver their platters for an extra charge in the “metro” new york area, but that is probably more expensive than doing it via Goldbelly – I’d also venture a guess that you could choose something from Goldbelly that would last a bit longer for the same money.

Take a look at t Ess-a-Bagel or Russ & Daughters on Goldbelly for your budget. R&D has a weekender box with a dozen bagels, 2 types of cream cheese, smoked fish, and fish dips, Ess-a has a dozen bagels with lox & cream cheeze or a half dozen.

And if you want to skip bagels because there will be plenty already, Goldbelly has lots of other things that would fit the bill from pastrami to pasta kits and more that doesn’t need to be consumed instantly.

Some great suggestions here; Teaneck is in Bergen County (where your friend lives) and is full of Kosher delis… the other thing you might do is if you have the name of the funeral home is call and ask them for recommendations since they’re likely in the area.
I’d go with Zabar’s or Russ & Daughters if you can do it. Quality is unmatched!

ETA that this is a wonderful localISH spot: The Kosher Nosh even if you don’t need it to be K. That link takes you to their Shiva Meals page.
