Elitists. They scorn The People’s oyster presentation.
It is like 6 oysters are all giving me the evil eye. I have garlic in the kitchen and an iron key in the garage. I think I will use both.
If you have mugwort, grab that as well.
I’m curious: what makes a bench scraper “terrific” ?
Fits my hand, scrapes easily, has badass vibes.

My cousin sent me some jerky from Sask. He raises cattle. I’m not sure if any of his cattle became jerky.
Thank you for posting about the chocolate CSA! I signed myself up after seeing your post. Just got my first shipment this afternoon. Looks really interesting and I’m excited to have a taste over the weekend. Did you get yours as well? (I won’t post about the contents just yet, just in case.)
i’ve not heard anything back from my nephew yet. so go ahead and post. i’m curious.
finally got mine! love that the bars are scored into small squares — helps with portion control:)
had a bite of the 70% central java — creamy with a nice finish. 2 more bars, both 70%: 1 sumba; 1 central java with coconut sugar. the other 3 are from peru — all 99%
Very interesting! We got different stuff – no idea why, or how this thing is supposed to work. My bars said Harvest 3 and Harvest 5, which was confusing because there are only supposed to be 4 harvests..? I wrote to them and asked for more info, twice, and they never replied. Suspect it’s a really tiny operation, but, bit iffy.
In any case, despite the comms issue I was pretty pleased with what I received:
One package labeled “More Roasts” with the same chocolate (from Ecuador), same percentages, across three different roast “temperatures” (hot, medium, cool). That was a unique experience for me and I wish they’d included some notes to help me understand the hows and whys – but in any case the differences were mostly textural, with the “cool” one having a crisper/snappier texture, the hot a smoother/creamier texture, and the medium…well, medium. The flavor profile of this chocolate was very clean and mild, not at all bitter. Definitely enjoyed sampling these.
The second package I received is the same Indonesia one you got. Personally I think the Sumba is the winner there both in taste and texture. The Java ones were good but a touch sour/winey for my taste.
Photo below of what the bars looked like (they’re long gone at this point). Notice that even the molds used on our bars is/was different! Anyway, I think I’ll go ahead and sign up for the next season…it was pretty fun and I’d never say no to more chocolate.
so i can tell which is which and compare
i had a chance to talk with eric, the owner. interesting guy — he’s also an architect — been in somerville forever. and yes, it is a very small operation and there is a lot of information about where the chocolate is grown, but it taste good, and really, that’s all that matters:).
like you, i’m not entirely clear how the csa works. but if come christmas, my nephew wants to do it again, i’m in!
I love the old maps of Somerville they use for the wrappers. It’s close to where I live in Somerville and I love to give the chocolate as part of “a taste of Somerville” gifts.
just heard back from my nephew, and apparently what i received yesterday was a partial csa, since he ordered late. so he ordered an additional 3 bars, yet to arrive:
Java 65% dark with coconut sugar and pandan leaf infusion
Qori Warmi VRAE-99 80% dark
Two Roasts
so far, the java 65% dark with coconut sugar and pandan leaf infusion is my favorite with the juan laura a close second.
