We’d enjoyed the stroll round the botanical gardens and decided to have lunch here. It’s a fairly straightforward menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, along with a handful of other starters and main courses.
Vegetable quiche had crisp pastry and a filling of mushrooms, caramelised onions and Gruyere. It came with a good handful of salad. Across the table, a larger portion of salad was topped with slices of southern fried chicken. Nothing spectacular here – just a couple of very decent lunches.
Worthy of note is that the restaurant adds a 13% service charge instead of old-fashioned cash tipping. Good for them! However, it still leaves the credit card slip open for tips. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of the service charge – it is the tip. Don’t get caught out effectively tipping twice. I’d like to think that Cheekwood just hasn’t thought this through fully, rather than hoping to rip off unsuspecting customers.
