[Nara, Japan] Dinner at Takenoya

Takenoya at the Nara Royal Hotel is one of those quietly-dependable in-house traditional Japanese restaurants which one fall back on if one cannot get a booking at one of those Michelin-rated eateries like Wa Yamamura.
Wa Yamamura, of course, is Nara’s own 3-Michelin-starred temple to gastronomy a mere 11 minutes’ walk away, but would probably require at least 2-3 months’ advance booking.

Takenoya offers seasonal specialties, incorporating local Nara produce into its inventive dinner set menus. No fireworks here, just solid dependable staples, competently prepared and beautifully presented.

My dinner this evening - I still have to get a Japanese friend to translate the detailed menu here.
