Sorry I do not have any pictures. There’s the Smithville Inn which is about 20 minutes or so from Atlantic City. They make the best french onion soup I’ve ever had. Croutons, 3 cheeses, and they make their own fried onions on top. This is not my picture:
The place is filled with a bunch of little shops. Country type stuff, toys, a gourmet food store, a punk store, a winery, etc, etc. In Christmas it’s decorated up like a Dickens village.
Fried onions on a french onion soup…this is epic genius and at the same time so obvious I can’t believe it’s never been done before. I need this in my life.
Other places do this as well. The Claremonet Tavern in Bernardsville makes a decent french onion soup with fried onions on top as well. But their Beer Mac & Cheese is awesome. It’s like $5 or something and very filling.
Blue Rock Cafe in Keyport, NJ, a local dive bar, also offers a French Onion soup topped with frizzled onions.
