I’m looking - and also great music. If you find one let me know and I’ll do the same!
I only wish it was me who recommended but I actually needed to google NoMa to see where it was. New Roc is a 35 minute drive from Casa Jfood and I either stay closer, or if I am on the road passing Mew Roc I am on my way to Laguardia or NYC to see the offspring.
Thank you for thinking it was me who recommended a great place, I try, but not me this time.
Ciao.
Wow. Then by process of elimination it was JMF who recommended NoMa for the cocktails (perhaps?) and the food just turned out to be really good?
Amazing. Stuff like that don’t happen to me. Or ‘Mikey’.
Thanks anyway, jfood, your posts are always welcome at any rate.
P.S. Love your blog.
Here’s a review of Noma Social cocktail which I did for CTBites last year …http://www.ctbites.com/home/2015/11/20/sexy-cocktails-debut-noma-social-lounge-in-new-rochelle.html
I liked F.I.S.H.in Port Chester very much (though the drive to it was totally noir), but the unrelated FISH in Stamford is better. The seafood is simple, fresh, and immaculately prepared and presented… at reasonable prices. And just across the street is Stamford’s treasured art house, The Avon.
Hah, noir describes the drive exactly. We talked at length to Diego, who worked there during its run, and now works part time at NoMa. He described how he used to direct people there from Costco in Portchester. Once the word got out, of course, it was mobbed. With my nemeses, as I shared.
Nice review, Louuuuu. Very nice. A keeper. Too bad I can’t walk there, I’d be trying out a new cocktail every night.
Did you ever go there (can’t remember the name of the place, natch) when Chef Denzel was there? His calamari were, and I hate this phrase, to die for. He then left, sadly, and went to VA. It was taken over and turned into a burger type place, and the calamari were still on the menu. They were, in a word, disgusting.
The drive to F.I.S.H. in PC was very interesting. Sorta reminded me of where I grew up which made me a bit uneasy and my wife less so. Once inside was great, but not sure it was worth the last 200 yards.
As I drove down that forsaken Port Chester lane (Fox Island Road), I expected at any moment to find myself in the middle of a Hiasson crime novel.
Not a restaurant technically …
I noticed while driving by, there appears to be a new Latin deli in
the space that Cholula’s once occupied, Battle Avenue in White Plains.
I did not stop because I had someone with me and we
did not have time…If any old Cholula fans are reading this
and stop in before I do…please report back…thx
I’m sorry I never made it to Cholula. It seems, reading an old review, that they had very good horchata. I did make it to Ruth’s Jamaican, and chose poorly - oxtail with sides, for takeout. Um, either it didn’t travel or I didn’t.
Speaking of horchata reminded me of Sunset Grill, a fairly nice Mexican restaurant that came and went on Gedney Way in White Plains. It even took up very brief residence at the golf course on North Street.
The restaurant business is a tough one, for sure. Remember the restaurant, also fairly good food, in the location that also sold quirky furniture on Central Ave., in Hartsdale I believe?
Global gatherings…never tried it
Thanks, chowdom.
Food was good, ambiance - not so much.
Had a nice re-visit to Tuck’d Away in Tuckahoe this weekend. Was surprised by the 7:00pm cutoff on meters, but still not as bad as the 9:00pm cutoff by the highway robbers in White Plains.
Any table we wanted, granted we were early, but I got a four-top. Instant drink service, and on asking which bourbon I wanted for my Sidecar, Stephanie remembered from the last time how I wanted it! How wild is that? Guess mine is the only Sidecar ever ordered. It was perfect.
Mussels were good, as was hubby’s soup. No rush, so we were allowed to eat our appetizers in peace.
I got a Tuck’d Away burger with a fried egg and with a side salad, both were excellent. Asked for their house hot sauce, and boy was it. Hubby got a plain vanilla burger with mushrooms (how someone can eat a burger without cheese is beyond me) and fries and deemed both very good.
See, that’s ALL I ask for. Ticked all my boxes, and we got a $5. coupon in email because I joined their something or other.
Price for everything was reasonable, service was outstanding, and parking is free after 7:00pm. Why would I go somewhere for a burger where they can’t make me a Sidecar?
FYI if you don’t mind walking around the corner I believe you can park in the Metro North lot on weekends, the one closer to the station possibly the smaller one too. I agree their burger is good, they use brisket in their mix…good wings too.
Thanks, chowdom. Is the lot free on weekends? We only put in a quarter and then took a chance on the last half hour. Yeah, paying to park to eat really frosts my biscuits.
Judging from all the wings ordered when we were there, I got that impression. We’ll have to try them next time, they even have boneless. Which are what, by the way? To paraphrase Oscar, who asked in The Odd Couple (TV version, far superior to the movie): how did they fly?
Yes…to the free parking…I would not have mentioned it otherwise.
These pics are old…from shortly after they opened
Cool, thanks chowdom, very good to know.
As always, your pictures are outstanding. The pretzel bites look good.
Thank you … Unfortunately I only have my reject photos
I lost my entire photo library a while back
The pretzel bites were good as were the dipping sauces
I don’t know why we have not been back…maybe I thought
they were a bit pricey for what they were…
Ok, that looks amazing!! Is that Tuck’d Away? That burger! Those fries. Be still my heart!
Yup, that is they, Gwenn. I shy away from taking pictures, I’m not sure why.
Their side salad was quite impressive, and you can get garlic fries as well as sweet potato fries on the side.
Unlike the $19. burger place, their prices include fries for a bit less. As I said the first time I visited, my burger cost as much as my Sidecar, but guess what…I didn’t care.
BTW, I had it for lunch twice more, and it was still good reheated.
Meanwhile - I am really going to have to write this stuff down - I would like to thank whomever recommended them to me.
That be me, primosprimos. On the other site. Glad you enjoyed…
