Still growing…but play safe and harvested it before the first frost!
That is a huge winter melon! What are you going to do with it? Does their quality suffer as they get larger (like zucchini)?
photos?
That’s gonna make a lot of soup! You could feed an army.
Yikes!
The other ‘protein’ ingredients needed to create the ‘umami’ of the broth are going to break the bank!!
Whoa! I take it that will grow on the ground, or you have a reinforced steel trellis for your gourds! Is it cooling down enough to have hot pot? Love winter melon in hot pot!
That is truly impressive. You should ship it to Jose Andreas so that World Central Kitchen can make meals for several thousand people.
If I had a chunk of that, I’d make this: https://thewoksoflife.com/braised-winter-melon/
GMO gone wrong.
I need to cut it open in order to tell about the quality. So far, tapping along melon reveals SOLID echo, so no interior rot or over ripen…etc
Just simply braised cut up chunks with sun-dried shrimp and chicken broth is tasty and hearty enough!
Very impressive! The color resembles Fuzzy Gourd, versus the waxy look of most Winter Melons. Do you know the variety name? I’ve grown a lot of Mokwa, but nothing close to that size!
