Murales [SF, Mission]

Murales is a wine bar with a small food menu that opened up a few months ago in the old L’emigrante space on the NE corner of 18th/Mission. Most of the wines are from Mexico, with a couple from South America and Spain. Beer/wine only, although they run a few low ABV cocktails, including a very weird looking Margarita al pastor that I didn’t try (bacon and sweet corn infused agave wine, pina, limon fresco, al pastor oil, dried chili salt). Food is sort of a mix of all those regions with pozole, empanadas, ceviche, and a few other things. I thought the wines I tried were interesting if not exactly amazing, but I was a big fan of the chicken empanada, and the salsa selection is pretty fun. I was partial to the borracha (pasilla, honey, dark beer), and there’s a macha, some tomatillo based one, and one more that I forget. Certainly worth trying for at least the snacks.
