My favorite frozen desert of 2018 is Turmeric spice cashew ice cream at Mr. Dewies cashew creamery in Albany.

They also sell their ice cream at Berkeley Bowl but not the Turmeric spice yet.

Their cashew ice cream is the best non-dairy ice cream I have ever tasted. The Turmeric spice Is creamy, not too sweet has a satisfying warm spiciness from the Turmeric and other spices – I get a hint of cinnamon. It’s extremely satisfying and I highly recommend it.

One of the owners told me that the Turmeric spice flavor started as a seasonal flavor, but customers liked it so much they demanded that they keep it on as a permanent flavor.

They also have a stand in the renovated Emeryville Public Market. Personally, I didn’t care for the turmeric flavor, but I liked the caramel almond and the roasted cashew.

Haven’t tried the turmeric, but they make a dynamite strawberry that has real berry flavor! It’s an outstanding local product. I was sorry that they withdrew from most retail outlets, I used to be able to buy it at Farmer Joe’s but no longer.
