This just showed up today in my Monterey County NOW newsletter:

MBARI (Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute) is planning to build a new research facility, which will increase the efficiency with which MBARI loads and offloads its autonomous underwater vehicles that explore the seafloor in Monterey Bay and beyond.

If permitted - which appears likely - there’s an unfortunate side effect. Phil’s Fish Market will be forced to move from its long-time home at 7600 Sandholdt Rd, Moss Landing, CA.

This is no doubt several years away, but still, something to be aware of, since most folks only visit once in a while.

Sad news. An institution displacing an institution. The latter can’t/won’t be replaced in terms of history and ambiance.

People retire, people die, properties are redeveloped and the owners retire, in this area, they retire with enough funds to be comfortable.

This place has been in business for 30 years…Maybe people feel sorry for Phil, has anyone watched the MBRI development?
