More Chowhound Shenanigans

Melanie Wong? Is she working for them now?

At least someone can figure out how to post. Way ahead of me.

Well, she should be non-stick…

I guess I’ve been in retail for too long - I am most appalled by how absolutely amateur the photo is! I mean, geez…tidy up your bedroom first for gawds sake. If someone is lonely enough to be looking for this sort of companion that photo may just nudge them into a very depressive place.

Com’on. It looks more realistic this way. If you clean up the room, then it just like a brushed up ads.

No, she just never gave up posting. She still tries to keep the convo going. She definitely does NOT work for them

I still don’t know what her story is, I’ve wondered the same thing about her working there.

I e-mailed her when the storm hit, inviting her here there, and everywhere. She replied that she was frustrated but hopeful, taking a CH break, etc. I couldn’t swear on a stack of Food Labs that she’s not a mole, but I doubt it.

Well ā€œmoleā€ is kindof a strong and accusatory term. She’s apparently lives where Ch is headquartered and has been very active on the site for many years. It wouldn’t be a stretch to think she’s compensated, but we certainly are only guessing.

My only point is really that my past few checks of the ā€˜latest’ posts show a relatively large number of mostly informational posts by her. She’s not asking questions but offering subjects for discussion. She COULD be just trying to help elevate the content. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt unless some proof to the contrary surfaces.t certainly could use some elevating. Marssy will sometimes initiate topics beyond site stuff, or at least used to.

I noticed the same during my drive by.

I am kind of a strong and accusatory person! (twirls mustache) I didn’t know where CH HQ was, but she’s always posted stuff like that. AND she complains a lot on site talk. But like I said - one e-mail exchange, and I don’t know this person at all.

Her posts have historically been largely informational. I’ve had some brief exchanges with her when she visited my area. I don’t think she has work ties to CH. I think she finds that her local board is still viable and isn’t willing to abandon a site that she has so much invested in.

Could be she knows employees at CH and learned info which kept her hopeful through the bad times. The serious food world isn’t that big in any locale that you don’t get to know people.

I’ve met her – she has been heavily involved since the beginning, the Jim Leff days, way before Chowhound was acquired and later became part of CBS.

I think she has invested a huge amount of time in writing posts and meeting up with local hounds. I suspect she likes the community, or whatever remains of it, and wants it to thrive again. I gave up on that a long time ago, but I admire her persistence and generosity.

Interesting and sad at the same time.

I just would like to state that my observation about her posts was in no way mean as a criticism of her. It was meant to shine some light on just how little I see there that is of interest and to suggest that she seems to be trying extra hard to gin up responses lately.

I know she’s been around CH since way back. I joined maybe 10 years ago, in the Leff days. I’ve never had any issues with her postings but know that others have. At one point I thought she was a volunteer moderator, but that could have been under Leff.

I thought that too

I’ve always enjoyed her posts. Lots of gossipy stuff here.
The fact remains it is uninteresting to
the extent I never go there and really never think about doing so.
We should move on here too. At least I want too.

IWell some of us still visit ā€˜the old country’ and find enough there to be worthy of some contribution. Personally I’m still somewhat curious as to why it went South and whether it can survive at all. I do think the references here are somewhat cathartic … so whatever helps.

Hopefully without being overly combative, I’d politely remind those who find objection to this topic that you can easily mute it.

I’m not combative. I just want this to be more than a site to talk about another site, if that makes sense.
Get beyond our roots.

Sorry. I didn’t say YOU were combative. Please re-read my post. I wanted to be sure you didn’t think MY reply was combative.

I follow things here, on FTC, Chef Talk, and still participate a bit on CH. Maybe I need a hobby or some references to more places like this. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
