Monday Bistronomy at Verjus (San Francisco)

Verjus, Lindsay and Michael Tusk’s third venue (Quince and Cotogna) is a wine bar that serves familiar bar food throughout the week. They have just begun a new service: Monday Bistronomy which they will offer several times a month,. We attended the first one on January 15. By reservation only, and fully booked for this evening.

The menu was well conceived and the plates well prepared.
Mushroom amuse

Winter squash with clams and calvados

Cod with seaweed
There was a slight delay on this course which was more troubling to our hostess than to us. She repeatedly checked on tables to make sure they had everything else to fill the several minutes lag. When it arrived, it was perfectly cooked.

Pork belly with cabbage

I apologize for the dark pics but dinner was by candlelight which made the wines even prettier.

Dessert was Norman baked rice pudding with ice cream and excellent almond tuilles.!
All wines were natural, but every one very approachable. Service was excellent. A happy room. Noise was fairly decent for San Francisco. Prices probably proportionate to quality. Wine pairing is priced separately; wine by glass or bottle available. Bill per person including pairing, before SF surcharge, tax and tip, around $90.
