Milan and Venice Dinner recommendations needed

We have one night in Milan and one night in Venice (Sunday).
At first I booked Ratana in Milan which we loved in 2017 and Vini da Giglio in Venice (not tried) but after reading here and on TripAdvisor (whatever that’s worth) I am having second thoughts. The wine list at Vini da Giglio looks very nice.
Our favorite in Venice -L’Osteria di Santa Marina and Ai Mercanti are unfortunately closed on Sunday.
Other past favorite Il Ridotto is a tasting menu and we would rather avoid that. Been to Al Covo twice and did not like it twice.
Any suggestions in Venice and Milan that are worth exploring?

On our trip last year we liked Ratana perhaps most from the four restaurants we tried in Milan - might still be worth a visit for you

We were just in Venice - see my recent writeup. In addition to Ai Mercanti, we loved Ai Assassini, but it too is closed on Sunday. Our favorite Cicchetti was Cantina Aziende Agricole, which looks to be open on Sundays and serves a full menu. See vinouspleasure’s recent writeup on his meal there - which we found to be an excellent guide.

happy to report that Vini Da Gigio was quite nice on a Sunday night. We had just flown in Sunday morning, went to hear Attila at Teatro Fenice in the afternoon, so had to make it 19:00 diner at Vini Da Gigio. Naturally at 19:00 nearly everyone was a tourist, but it did not affect the atmosphere, very convivial place. Wine list is great, food was too, especially Sarde in Saor, seafood risotto, seppie ala veniziana con polenta, special past with smoked cheese. For a sunday dinner in Venice I liked this place better than Al Covo.

Nice please report back about your Milan wanderings!

will do, although I still can not decide whether to go to Ratana or go to Confine Pizza e Cantina. Leaning towards Confine.

I think that’s the right call. I’m gonna try trippa too!

I don’t know Milano very well at all, but about fifteen minutes ago, I watched the Lombardy episode in the new Stanley Tucci series bout food in Italy, and one of the restaurants he visits in Milan is TRIPPA. In fact, it’s the only restaurant he visits in Milan if I’m not mistaken.

Well hopefully i can get it!

I looked it up after watching the show, and on TripAdvisor, there are many complaints about their reservation system; to their credit, someone on the staff (the owner, maybe) responded to a few of the complaints about how difficult it was to make a booking. I wonder if phoning them would work (??). It looks like a great place, judging only from what I saw on the tv program, but now that Tucci put his stamp on it, we know what might happen…

It’s been a hot minute since my last trip to Venice, but Antiche Carampane was the best dinner we had. Venissa was also extremely memorable but IMO best to go for lunch so you can enjoy the beautiful landscape during daylight hours.

ETA - I see your trip already happened - glad you had a good time and good food!

Confine pizza e cantina is a special place, and after 10 days of eating in Italy this was our last and most remarkable dinner. Using Michelin definition of stars we felt that Confine was somewhere between 2* (worth a detour) and 3* (worth a special journey). I can not wait to return.

Wowww thanks for the glowing rec did you do the tasting and if so how many courses?

Also what other places did you end up going to in Milan?

We did 5 courses + desert! This was our one and only “last supper” in Milan before flying out of MXP the next morning.
