I have tempted the forces of the universe. I got some Vuarnets way cheap (for Vuarnets) at Nordstrom Rack. I love them. Glass lenses are a treat.
I also have prescription Oakleys (for day-to-day wear, as well as a pair of the same frames with transitions lenses to serve as sunglasses). The frames are titanium, so on the few occasions I’ve fallen asleep with them on and woken up with them on the floor or, yikes, under me, they’ve held up fine. Generally, when they are not on my face, they live in their case (mostly so the cat doesn’t confuse them with something to be played with). But, one does have to get in a habit to put them in their case regularly.
When I was a youth and racing bikes, I had Oakley SubZeros. They disappeared for years but have been brought back due to popular demand. IMO the greatest athletic wear shades of all time, despite being plastic.
I used to work for Sunglass Hut and had to be up on the brands and their bells and whistles. I always got a kick out of the fact they call the grippy rubber ear socks and nose piece unobtainium.
My current pair is not quite as impressive as yours! But, they get the job done!
Very cool. Sadly I cleaned the sweats off my Subs frequently enough that eventually I wore through them enough, right above where the nosepiece was inserted, that one day after a ride I was cleaning them and they just snapped. Sigh. They were so light, so brilliantly designed. Plus they made you look a bit like a frog.
30 years old, at least. My optician despairs of ever selling me new frames.
For you young-uns, the sunglasses lenses clip onto the frames.
TL;DR - eat more fiber, like your mom said.
Good read. Fiber is good in a lot of ways so it is worth being reminded of that from time to time. I eat a good deal of it when I am home. When I travel and have trouble doing so I notice the difference in a bad way.
If anyone else is looking to reduce their consumption/reliance on plastic zip-top bags, I’ve been enjoying using these silicone cut vegetable/fruit covers:
They are a little delicate – I tore one of the smallest size (bought two packs). They’re great for cut cucumbers, onions, cabbage, etc.
I also got these as replacement for plastic wrap, but haven’t used them yet:
I think the smallest one is the most delicate – I ripped a few when I was using them as a replacement cover for glass milk bottles.
I watched this yesterday. A good documentary but a little light on the actual practicalities of cutting plastics from day to day life.
I was surprised to learn that printed receipts are a significant source of harmful chemicals. I love receipts and even keep then to look at later to remember restaurant meals or grocery shops.
Whenever there is no option to have my receipt emailed, I select no receipt if it is an option. If there is no such option, I grouse to a worker, tell them my grousing is not directed at them, and ask them to pass my displeasure on to management. Those receipts are so plasticized that they are generally not recyclable. I understand using them to recall meals, however, and have no solution short of keeping notes.
Maybe I need to start keeping a journal of meals rather than maintaining an informal scrapbook of receipts.
Now I don’t feel so bad about purging them almost immediately.
You could photograph them with your phone.
I thought the same thing. I’m not finished watching yet.
I’ve found that the “ink”/printing eventually disintegrates anyway. Better spare yourself the BPA.
Like old faxes.
