I put frozen soups, chili, etc. into Corelle containers and pop them in the microwave.
Best to avoid those plastic water bottles and shift to glass in a silicone sleeve, @linguafood. There’s a difference between rigid plastic like the kind used for water bottles, and nonrigid plastic like the kind used in plastic wrap. The chemical compounds used to make plastic rigid, like BPA, are known to leech into water. Most rigid plastic labeled “BPA-free” is made with a compound called BPB, which is identical to BPA except for one methyl group swap-out. BPB has already been shown to be an endocrine disruptor just like BPA, and endocrine disruptors have been linked with breast and reproductive cancers. Plastic water bottles are not good.
Pyrex is making a glass water bottle (bosilated glass) with 5 layer of silicone to protect it. I’m still using a cheap stainless steel water bottle because if I lose it…it’s $5 bucks. But if I see the Pyrex in the store, I’ll get one. I dislike plastic water bottles because they can be difficult to clean and of course the plastic part. I dumped the Nalgene 20 years ago.
Same. I buy the really cheap Ozark Trails stainless becauae if I lose it Im annoyed but it’s not a big loss.
When Im out on the road I have a couple of bottles that I fill woth ice water…and they stay cold even in a hot car.
I know. I’m not fooling myself, however, to think that I (or anyone) can avoid MPs entirely, since they’re everywhere.
That said, we may start replacing the plastic bottles with glass bottles IF we can find ones that work with our old Sodastream.
Please share what you find!
Soda Stream make a couple of models with glass bottles.
I found it very easy to kick the bottled water habit. The Britta is always in the fridge, full. The Yeti goes everywhere with me, and the water stays cold. It can go in the dishwasher.
Camping is about the only time I have to go woth plastic.
My Britta is also plastic!
I know. Even the filtration elements in fancy systems have plastic.
So… problem not solved?
I keep looking for a convenient bottle to carry with, but most metal concoctions are too big.
The elimination of plastic has, alas, not been achieved, but the problem of bottled water, which is not cheap, and tossing or even recycling a stream of used bottles is. Any other ideas for filters are welcomed. Here is an intriguing set of options? What are your thoughts?
Most of which either have some plastic or dont filter out plastic…
…or are blindingly expensive.
I think we’ve reached a point where all we can do is try because we aren’t going to get away from it.
I have a mostly stainless steel water filter pitcher, with a small plastic window to view levels. It has a universal slot that Brita and other filters hold. Bought about tan years ago, unfortunately discontinued.
I was curious so I looked and found a glass and stainless steel filter pitcher….but a little pricey at $150. Curious if the filter is any good.
Here’s another one… no affiliation with either.
That’s a kinder price, for sure. If it’s good & lasts.
Will check if CR has any reviews on it.
That one intrigued me.
I have one. But AFAIK there isn’t a Sodastream the works with both of their own types of bottles. You have to choose your path at the get-go. I chose glass.
