Michoacán food in Morro Bay, CA

Ariana’a Mexican Market & Deli serves what the owner(?) calls unadulterated home-style Michoacán food. They offer handmade tortillas and tostadas, tacos and burritos, huaraches, pork and chicken tamales, goat birria, fresh juices. In addition to carne asada, carnitas, and chicken, the meat options include goat, buche (lower esophagus), cabeza (head), and cueritos (pickled pork rinds). There’s menudo on weekends.

They have been open for a year, and soon plan to shut down the business for a few weeks to renovate the kitchen, which will enable them to make dishes like enchiladas.

This is a great addition to the Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo’s Mexican scene, which steers toward Mexican American dishes. The lengua (tongue) taco was excellent-- soft cubes of tongue served on a double layer of fluffy tortillas, and topped with a thick green salsa. I really liked the habanero component of the salsa and the juiciness of the meat.

Current hours are 9am-8pm. They’re closed on Sundays.

Is there a large Latino community over there?
