Does anyone have suggestions for what to order, or restaurants, cafés, bakeries, food stands, etc in Playa del Carmen? Are there some relatively local dishes you’d recommend?
Seems most regional Mexican foods I seek out come from the west side of Mexico or the northern states. I’ve only visited Ensenada, Manzanillo and Nuevo Laredo, so I’m extremely excited for this upcoming trip. Mexican food has been one of my top 3 favourite cuisines for as long as I can remember.

Buuuuuuuuuuumping this up, as it’s the only thread I’ve found about this part of Mexico. I’m going to Riviera Maya in late January and would LOVE suggestions if anyone has been more recently! TIA
It’s true that the Yucatan and Quintana Roo states don’t get as much attention for their cuisine like Oaxaca and Puebla and others. But they do have several local specialties and the food scene has definitely improved.
