[Memphis, TN] Majestic Grill

Lunch. Or, to be more precise, Sunday brunch. Much of the menu was very breakfasty. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but just not what we wanted.

A basket of biscuits arrived almost as soon as we’d sat down. Really good biscuits – light as you like.

A grilled ham and cheese sandwich was as you’d expect – a fairly mild cheese flavour (although the menu said it was “aged cheddar”) and crispish bacon. Fries were good. The menu has a section of flatbreads – think very thin pizza. One was ordered that came topped with tomato, basil and mozzarella. So, a margherita by any other name. It did the job.

But what makes the Majestic worthy of review was the dessert we’d seen being brought to other tables. Six shot glasses, each filled with a different dessert and intended for sharing between two. There was tiramisu, key lime pie, chocolate mousse, carrot cake, lemon cheesecake and a strawberry shortcake. All were excellent, with the exception of the carrot cake which was a little claggy in texture. Almost worth going just for this.
