Meals on Planes

We only usually take one longer flight a year, the one to Berlin, and yes, premium economy / EconomyPlus.

Food’s still slop in my experience, fucks up my insides 9 outta 10, and isn’t worth a single calorie for me.

We’ve been quite happy with the options at EWR & generally don’t need more than a sammich or salad pre-boarding :woman_shrugging:t2:

Of course it depends on what airport you’re flying out of YYZ is pretty dismal but I get some free lounge access with my CC, last time I flew out of Madrid, my flight was delayed so I got a €30 credit which got me some water, a couple of pastries and some Burger King (one of the few restaurants that accepted the vouchers.)

I am actually ok with pay toilets. They tend to be much cleaner than the free ones.

The ones in the old old old Atlanta Airport (1950s) had UV devices on the wall that held the toilet seats, which you had to then pull down to use.

Just stumbled across this. Can anyone else hear the gears grinding in the P & W geared turbofan?

Emirates First Class has on-board showers. Peak gimmick…though I did try it out once they introduced it on their Airbus A380s between Hong Kong and Bangkok (continuing to Dubai).

Three recent flights–

Uzbekistan Airways, Tashkent - Urumqi. Not bad, really, particularly for a short flight. Kebab, and many a carb.

Starflyer, Fukuoka to Tokyo Haneda. Onion broth, and green tea.

Xiamen Airlines “Western breakfast,” Tianjin to Guangzhou. Amused to see milk already added to cereal, never mind that they actually offered a bowl of cereal. Can’t wait to dunk that suss roll into the bowl

Athena Scalzi’s LONG review of some Denver Airport food:

For most US airlines economy seating, I don’t know if I’ve ever had any meal I would consider good ever…and this is not just my bringing my food snobbery out. I actually think if they allowed us to bring our own frozen tv dinner on board that they heat up for us, it would often be better. I was told that if you want it to be palatable to ask for vegetarian, halal or kind of the “special” meal, so I’ve always requested in advance a vegetarian meal. The meat often comes out so poorly that I find this at least makes the meal edible.

when working, I did more domestic and international travel than I ever want to remember or recount.

I had a rule: NEVER EVER get on a plane hungry.

airport food itself . . . always incredibly expensive . . . go for just a burger&fries - avoiding anything ‘elevated’ on the taste scale, was the safest bet.
wilted lettuce, soggy bun, mushy fries . . . not uncommon. but compared to thinking you’ll get good escargot at Orly…

Another quick trip west and back.

Some type of salmon salad heading west for lunch

A quiche for breakfast on the way home. Had a Bloody Mary as it was Friday and I was going to head home when I landed. The same yogurt that I don’t like.
