[Meaford, Ontario] dining

Meaford has quite a few options along Sykes St. Most are open Wednesday to Sunday, it seems.

Someone I met recommended the The Leeky Canoe , which serves pub grub and has a sidewalk patio along Sykes St.

I ordered the Falafel Bowl ($19), since I had bacon, sausage and eggs for breakfast. My Dining Companions enjoyed their naked leek soup ($8, no cheese or croutons on top) and haddock fish & fresh cut chips ($18).

The Leeky Canoe serves fairly standard but solid pub food, which hit the spot, with friendly service.

Hearts is located in Kimberley, a 20 minute/ 25 km drive from Meaford. Hearts is located on Beaver Valley Road, north of Beaver Valley ski club, and close to the defunct Talisman ski resort, which closed around 2014.

Shirley Temple with lemon lime bitters, nice tart rendition

Chili glazed eggplant with wheat berries and tahini

Marinated artichokes, piquillo peppers and a slightly hot yellow pepper

Polenta gratin and shrimp & scallop nage (stew, with potato and Swiss chard)

Chocolate pot de crème with cherries

One of the co-owners is Teo Paul, owner of Union on Ossington, Côte de Boeuf and Le Tambour Tavern (will correct name) in Hamilton.

The other chef/ co-owner, Tyler, I think, is from New Zealand, originally. One NZ influence on the specials, is the fried egg and beet on the steak haché (hamburger steak)

Great back patio, delicious food.
I’ll be back.
