We have a relative who had a regional empire in another fast food chain. He explained that he, too, was not in the restaurant business but in real estate.
Thanks… I’ve tried those and the fish was ok, but wasn’t happy with the batter in the oven. Maybe next time I’ll shallow fry them, or pop them in the flash oven (but not sure for how long).
I’ve only tried them in my wee (2 qt) air fryer and they come out very crispy.
How long… what temp?
I use the temps on the package for a guide, and keep checking. And flipping Better to have to cook it a little longer than to incinerate it.
Edit: I use slider buns, and, just like McD’s originally did, if I add cheese it’s only 1/2 slice
IF you are a Costco shopper, I highly recommend Trident Brand panko crusted cod fillets, OR beer battered ones. They usually have both, my preference is the panko crust. They aren’t uniform squares though. I use them in fish tacos typically. They also have some seasoned seafood pattie’s made from pollock, and seasoned well. These aren’t fillets, but round patties made of smaller pieces of fish. They’re nothing like the fish on Filet of at McD’s, but tasty enough - they would make a good fish burger. They also have tilapia, panko breaded as well, but I’m not a fan. Tilapia tastes muddy to me. Trident makes all these. Oh their salmon burgers are pretty damn good as well for that quick hit of protein and omega 3’s.
Wait…what are you saying? You can no longer get fish sandwiches all day? I haven’t had one in two years, but it helps me soldier on, knowing it’s there.
Every McD I go to offers FoF every day after 10:30 a.m.
Some 24hr McD will not have FoF from midnight to 5 a.m., however. But they are offered the rest of the day.
Speaking only for McD in the continuous United States.
No, you can get the fish sandwich all day.
Phew
I see. I re-reead Scott’s post, and I think I understand.
And what you do for the sauce?
Dill pickle tartar sauce.
Canadian McDs loosened up its meal time rules a while back, at least with respect to breakfast items.
I only order FOF once or twice a year, and usually later in the day, no clue how early it can be ordered.
Today is home made air fryer FOF day! I will use “deluxe” process American cheese, but mine is white, not yellow. Stay tuned.
Looking forward to the photos- you’re reminding me of the Eddie Murphy joke. (Of course, yours will be amazing!)
Wanna see that tarter sauce!
I have experimented with a number of “copycat recipes” and all of them were wrong. After a bit more research I found McDonalds’ allergen listings indicating it contains Pickle Relish, Capers, Onions, Distilled Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, and Parsley. The onion and parsley are dehydrated, but fresh should work even better as long as you rinse the onions. The only other flavor ingredients are “spice” and “spice extracts”, so have no idea what those may be. Betting some kind of pepper/paprika/garlic.
According to a document by a supposed ex-employee, the quantities are approximately:
1/2 cup mayo
1/4 cup relish
2 teaspoons dried minced onion
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon distilled vinegar
10-12 capers (small), minced
1/8 teaspoon sugar
Depending on how salty your mayo is, you may or may not need a pinch of salt.
Throw all this together and refrigerate well ahead of time to let flavors blend.
You can probably eliminate the dried parsley flakes or sub with confetti
They add absolutely nothing of worth to anything.
Sure they do.
A thin veneer of green healthiness.
I admit I have never used dry parsley so I’ll take your word for it, but I use fresh in a fair amount of stuff and really like the bright aromatic flavor.
