McDonald's in General

They have a couple grilled chicken sandwiches that are a bit healthier than the fried ones and are still pretty tasty.
But no one I know goes to Chik Fil A any more. It is too crowded and the lines are too long.
Sorry, I had to channel my inner Yogi Berra there. LOL!

It definitely has a market here, because it’s new and relatively cheap.

I have to watch my carbs right now, so, if I want fried chicken, I skip the bun or potatoes. I’ve also become loyal to Canadian Mary Brown’s fried chicken when I order fast food chicken.

I think the best thing at CFA are their breakfast items.

The egg white sandwich and the hash brown bowl are very good. Nothing revelatory, but its executed well and not too salty or greasy. Something to be said about just nailing the basics.

@bbqboy and @ipsedixit , is there somewhere you are seeing industry details on things like FF staffing shortages? Like how they vary with location, cost of living, wages, benefits? I can find stuff like that for medical specialists and states, and was wondering if there is something similar.

Yes, but it’s not free.

Here you can get them with lettuce instead of a bun. I have also just eaten them minus one or both pieces of bread. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were actually less carbs than the nuggets, or whatever they are called there.

@ipsedixit , if you subscribe to the industry journal, are you finding that CFA and In &Out do no better than McD’s and the like with regard to hiring problems? Does it seem like working conditions have no impact on hiring?

Hope to find those in Quebec and/or Montreal if we get there!

It is similar to Popeye’s level. I’ll post another 2 chicken recommendations that are more regional to Quebec!

It’s hard to interpret the data to determine whether a chain operation (In N Out) is affected by labor and/or employee issues; it’s a bit easier with a franchise operation like CFA.

Still, that said, the collated and published data is both over and under inclusive, and inevitably and invariably you will be get both false positives and false negatives. Why? There is no specific KPI (key performance indicator) for labor/employment issues. You can ask a franchisee if they are having problems hiring, but that is both too subjective and not objective enough.

Case in point. We can look at a franchise fast food operation, we’ll call it McDonald’s in this hypo, in the same city, let’s say Roseville, CA, which I think has about at least 6 or so McD’s. You can look at objective KPI and other metrics to see whether a particular store in the entire area to indirectly see if there are staff issues – i.e., wait times at drive-thrus, gross profit, advertised wages versus minimum wages, etc., but all of those objective metrics can be just as easily explained by (1) a bad franchisee (2) bad location (3) just bad employees (4) bad luck or (5) a combination of all those bad things.

There is no one objective metric that will show labor/employment issues, directly. You can ask each franchisee what they think, but that’s too subjective to be taken entirely on face-value. Because, after all, that particular franchisee may be having difficulties hiring people just because she is a pain in the ass to work for.

So you can anecdotally drive around your geographic location and ask your regional reps/managers what it’s like, but that’s the equivalent of a straw poll. Good, but not perfect.

‘Bout as clever as the silly/edgy name calling that goes on. We got some growin’ up to do, fer sher. I don’t care what political side you support, dat crap is flat out unprofessional.

I hear that “they don’t want to work anymore” tagline all the time. I’ve worked with kids aged 4 to 21 in these last 29 years. Our kids are damn good workers. One of our custodians (one who uses this line ad nauseum) took ill for a period, and we hired a school kid (age 15) that puts his ass under the table in terms of quality of work, quantity of work and professionalism. I remind him of this frequently. The guys that hires and fires told him the same. Humble pie awaits for those who do not know. You’ll have a few bottom feeders here and there; but most kids expect to work, prepare for work and work.

So, $4.94 USD, about $1.25 cheaper in Canada.

And… what time of day you order it. I had a workmate that always ordered his with lettuce and tomato. At the time I had no idea you could do that, but it is actually a thing… and ensures you get a freshly made sandwich.

@kaleokahu once mentioned you could just ask for one to be freshly made (didn’t know you could do that either), but I feel more confident asking for lettuce or a full slice of cheese in order to get a freshly made one. My fav is lettuce with extra sauce.

My favorite is the “10:30 a.m. Filet-O-Fish”

I wonder if there is a version of the “Mc 10:35” that uses the filet-o-fish? Alas, the McDonalds near me closed and was replaced with a Verizon store.
