MasterChef: The Professionals

Does anyone else watch this in the US? Anywhere? I’m engaging in another binge and I can’t find season 17 here. As far as I can tell I can’t watch BBC One where I am (US) . I’ve tried Tubi and I’ve tried HDCump.

For the record, it’s worlds apart from what I’ve seen (not much) of Master Chef in the US.. Like many other UK shows, it may not be something every HO can appreciate, but I really like watching the skill tests, and I really enjoy Monica Galetti.

Here’s a skills test on YouTube “set by Marcus Waring!” :face_with_hand_over_mouth: . There’s usually a dramatic pause and close up of the blue eyes in the opening scene.

I’ve also exhausted what I could find of Great British Menu.

On HDClump this looks interesting!

Season 17 was broadcast in the UK towards the end of 2024. This was just at the beginning of allegations against Gregg Wallace becoming known. As he has now been sacked from the various Masterchef series, it’s possible that the BBC has decided not to make that series available to a wider audience.

As I understand it, the 2025 series is due to air between around now and Christmas, although I havent seen dates. Matt Tebbutt will replace Wallace so, perhaps interestingly, there will be now three chef judges instead of two plus a “diner”. I’ll wait to pass judgement but I’m not convinced having three chefs is a positive move - although Tebbutt’s career is now very much TV food, rather than cooking. And he’s personable, so maybe a good fit. Of course, neither Wareing nor Galetti are currently working chefs.

I think I watched Great British Menu on Dailymotion. Maybe they have it. I know I’ve watched some of the spin off Great British baking shows on the Roku Channel.

Also enjoying the series Next Gen: Chef on Netflix. I also indulged in the Guy Fieri Tournament of Champions this summer. There’s a bunch of seasons and you can fast forward through guy’s verbose bs, but it’s full of really great chef’s.
