With more and more marijuana legally available it’s interesting to see first studies describing its effect on how people change their eating habits (munchies) and having a more sedantary lifestyle
As a cannabis connoisseur of near 40 years, none of this applies to me. If anything, it’s been the opposite: I barely get the munchies anymore, and thank goodness for that — bc if I polished off an entire Milka Sahnecrème chocolate bar after toking like I did in HS I’d weigh well over 400lbs
I realize I am also a huge outlier in that it’s never affected me in a way that made me more sedentary. It actually makes me feel more like socializing than I would without it.
My guess is these are mostly new users.
It’s an interesting hypothesis. I would have thought that with cannabis products often supplanting alcohol (although not always), people would be less hungover and therefore more likely to exercise.
I can say with absolute certainty that being at least a little stoned makes running something close to tolerable, rather than making one want to die.
Your running is my house cleaning
I actually hate both with a passion, although cleaning tends to make me want to break things, not die. Nothing like a nice bowl or a few cart hits to make me WANT to reorganize the GDMF mess of leftover containers & lids, or do a deep clean of >insert whatever needs it the most<.
Thank you, cannabis
I don’t get the munchies either. In fact, I sometimes have to remind myself that it’s dinner time, or I’ll forget to eat until late in the evening, which never turns out well (reflux, sleep interference).
I’m far more famished coming home from a night of imbibing.
I guess cannabis research is still at the start since cannabis is still a schedule 1 drug, hence the munchies. I skimmed the article and assume the research was done without administration of cannabis. The new admin won’t likely change the schedule, which was discussed, then allowing more research and fed funding.
re: munchies, sometimes I get them, sometimes not. If I eat before and I’m full, usually not. Lots of variables. That said perhaps we can discuss munchies, what you like…and the craziest munchies. Won’t get into daily munchies now….but once was in downtown Berkeley with some friends for drinks…and then a joint was smoked. Ended up at Comal…and dropped $350, whole Mexican fish, bunch of other stuff I don’t remember but it was fun.
In any case, there’s weed strains that are anti-munchies…more CBD’s supposedly. I think that’s where you want a deep dive in research, clinical trials where people are isolated, monitored and given certain strains to see if those strains work, etc. Perhaps even a weight loss strain could be produced…that would be as insane as it going full legal. Imagine that, weight loss dope….I’d bet it can be developed, if not already worked on.
Here’s a list of anti-munchies strains,
Isn’t that heroin ?
Hahaha…but the other side effects can be rather f*cked up.
Actually, I find the most reliable indicators of any strain’s effects to be the percentage of any given terpene, which is more relevant even than the distinction between indica and sativa.
I don’t tend to get strains that are high in CBD (they’re pointless to me), but strains high in THC-V or humulene can allegedly curb one’s appetite.
I barely pay attention to those, as terpinolene, limonene, and b-myrcene are more important to me.
i’ve tried CBD cannabis and didn’t feel the claimed effects but I was also anticipating a decent buzz. Most CBD bred flowers have relatively low THC. I have triedCBD gummies for sleep and they work but not consistently for me and lots of factors like what you ate or when.
I go for THC %, higher the better, so you need to smoke less. I get the basics of terpene, etc. but easier to remember old school parlance: sticky or hairy.
I did get a strain that claimed low munchies and it worked and it was noticeable. But getting those strains at dispensaries is inconsistent…crazier than tracking down certain wines. I’ll have to talk to the dispensary budtenders (minor dealers) about low munchie weed, and diet weed….apparently it’s a thing. I usually go with value but can’t hurt to try some.
CBD has no psychoactive properties. As far as THC content goes, higher % doesn’t always translate to a higher high. Most carts are at 74%+ THC, but as far as flower goes I’ve had better effects in the mid-range (say, 18-22%) vs. 30%
Carts here are usually in the 70%-80% THC, but there are a growing number of brands (‘Americanna’ is one) that put out carts in the mid-to-high 90’s.
One I have at the moment is 96.5 % total cannabanoids, with THC at 93%, and various CBD’s making up the rest.
Yup. I still find the terps to give me far more valuable info than THC content.
A favorite strain of mine (flower) was Bruce Banner — how fitting, too — probz around 18/19% THC. I loved it. It also had a really unusual, very floral aroma/scent.
Dunno if it’s a bitch to grow, but I’ve not seen it in years. SADZ.
Oh my!
Full disclosure: this was for 4 peeps around 2am— my PIC and two buddies, and there may have been booze involved as well
I don’t see those in Oregon. I wonder if we have an upper limit on THC.
We are mostly edible consumers who supplement with a high sativa THC pen. The munchies are a huge thing in my house. We have a section on the grocery list for it. I always tell my PIC that he has to eat all his veggies with his dinner if he wants to indulge in the snacks. He would eat like an 18 year old college student if left to his own devices. I have always had at least one dog since I moved out in my own at 18. (Wow, that’s 18 years ago now!) my dog(s) are spoiled and are walked 4-5 times a day, so that helps with the sedentary. I’m definitely not one to go to spin class or Pilates stoned. Exercise is either done before or those last two stoned dog walks are going to be longer than usual. Offsets the snacks, or that’s what I tell myself anyway.
