Malaysian/Singaporean

Now that our local spot Lion City has closed, I need a fix. I will be in my old stomping grounds, Scarborough, tomorrow - is Gourmet Malaysia still good? I preferred them to Restoran, but if there’s another option I’m game.

Yes! Malaysian Curries and Rotis, Sambals…etc are still OK…however, overall quality isn’t as impressive as before.
Another decent one in the vicinity is ’ South Asian Malaysian Cuisine ’ on Midland just south of Steeles, where RONA is. Smaller place with less menu selection but food is pretty good.
Good luck!

SOOS downtown on Ossington between Queen W and Dundas W have been consistently stellar in producing a deliciously ‘modern take on Malaysian street food’ for 10 years. Their cocktails are also deliciously inventive.

I’ve been going to Kiss My Pans, in Little Italy, at College and Manning, which has a Singaporean brunch from Friday to Monday if I remember right .

I’ve also bought their rendang to go, around 5 pm before they close. They also have laksa.

It’s a wine shop/ cheese shop/ coffee shop/ brunch spot, and they close fairly early. They have a few tables inside and a few tables outside.

The rendang reheats well.

I haven’t tried the laksa yet.
I like the turnip cake brunch main.

I like the tasting menu/ group dinner at Soos on Ossington, but it’s been a while since my last visit.

There are a few options on the cookin app ( home cooking delivery service) I wasn’t too keen on trying it to be fair.
Friend ordered a few times beef rendang has been disappointing so far from the two spots we tried.

Thank you all for the reco’s. I know I’m in the minority, but I find Soos good but not great. Gourmet Malaysia wasn’t open today. So I’ll have to get my fix another day.

I haven’t been here yet. Adding it for reference. https://www.nainainoodles.com/

Reupping if there are any recommendations in Scar/Markham…otherwise I’ll go back to Gourmet Malaysia.

ME Southeast Asian Cuisine at 10 East Wilmort /Leslie is pretty good and authentic, though a touch on the expensive side.

Have you tried One 2 Snacks just west of Gourmet Malaysia? If you’re going during meal time, I highly recommend ordering ahead of time via email and they’ll give you a pickup time. There is limited seats (maybe 4-5?) as most people take out. Their weekend kuih muih are a standout and beats anything Gourmet Malaysia puts out. I especially like their pulut panggang.

But if you’re looking for a family style dinner where you order a few dishes with rice/noodles, then that’s not the place for it.

Thanks, I’m ordering take out anyway. Are you in favour of One 2’s cooked food over GMs?

I haven’t tried every item lately but the ones we frequently order like Meehoon Siam, Hokkien Mee, Char Kway Teow are. I don’t remember enough about the other items but I think I preferred GM’s nasi lemak sambal.
