TIONG HWA HAINAN CHICKEN RICE
Great venue for Hainan Chicken Rice in this World Heritage designated town. We arrived early and leisurely enjoyed a favorite meal in the relaxed Shophouse feel and ambiance of this quintessential Malacca restaurant.
We selected a table in the spacious airy courtyard, electric fans harken back to an earlier relaxed period and time.
Open kitchen station with charcoal braziers grilled Kaya Toast and other delicacies to order.
The menu is presented on weathered newsprint, although actual ordering is via QR code.
Utensils arrived in a bucket of hot water, an old fashion touch that one doesn’t often see these days. Bowls of flavorful Chicken Broth to prep the palate. Ginger Garlic and Chili Sauce, we’re ready to rock!!
Half bone-in Chicken, poached perfectly. Absolutely succulent, my poor Cantonese would simply describe as Ho Wat. Chicken Rice Balls are a Malacca specialty.
Bean Sprouts lightly wok tossed with a snappy crunch. Bok Choy with a like treatment.
Bamboo Noodles, great chew!!
Local good manners means one must always order a drink with one’s meal. DW had an Iced Plum Lime, I had a Chilled White Coffee. Well worth the price of admission.
To my minor amazement, we pretty much finished everything. The pleasant staff was getting geared up for the actual rush as we paid our bill.
Great meal in a very comfortable setting with amicable efficient service.
The huge Coconut delivery truck squeezing by added an authentic local feel. We’re gonna enjoy our visit to Malacca!!!
