Maine trip report

hi everyone,

we had the best week in Harpswell and I wanted to report on same of our awesome eating -

Harpswell food:

  1. If you go to Harpswell, do NOT MISS Corner Market (formerly veggie corner). They have pastries from Solo Pane in Bath - my kids loved the chocolate and butter croissants - we loved the rolls which I used for homemade lobster rolls. We got an egg cheese breakfast sandwich on our last day and I can confidently say that it’s the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had - amazing bread, fluffy egg patty… outstanding. They also sell the cutest ice cream sandwiches from Afterglow which were delicious.
  2. Erica’s Seafood was not quite what it’s been in the past - smaller quantities and the lobster roll wasn’t as fresh as it has been in years past.
  3. Itty bitty coffee shop - super cute, good coffee, good coffee cake/brown butter RK treat, cookie. Nice addition to the peninsula.
  4. Dolphin x2 - I got the seared swordfish which was delicious and the second time shared fried clams/scallops - so good.

Portland:
5) Street and Co - I had an amazing fresh pasta with a tuna bolognese - so good. Salad was fine, nothing special.
6) Isa Bistro - this was fantastic. I had a lobster pasta, great burrata salad, and our coconut cream pie was so good. My husband’s halibut was perfectly cooked. My kids split a steak, and the 12 yo practically sang while eating it, she was so happy!

Brunswick:
7) Frosty’s x2 - we love Frosty’s so much - I’ve never had a better donut. For old people like me, it’s so reminiscent of Cottage Donuts in Newton.
8) Gelato Fiasco - always a hit
9) Fat Boy Drive-in - I missed this meal while at an event, but my family loved their burgers.

Great report, @sallyt!

So happy to hear about the new ownership of the former Veggie Corner. We’d drive to Bath to supply ourselves with Solo Pane baked goods the past couple of years when renting in Harpswell. Agree that those ice cream sandwiches from Afterglow are amazing. Last year the wine store in Brunswick, Vessel & Vine, had them. One of the best bites of our vacation.

Erica’s, the Dolphin, and Frosty’s (in Brunswick) were/are favorite stops for us too.

ETA: Just re-read your report and caught up with your enthusiasm for Frosty’s doughnuts. Now I want one, especially my favorite in all of doughnuttery: Frosty’s apple fritter.
