Madrid

You ordered my favorite dessert–their cheesecake made with Payoyo cheese. Ymmm!
Even though I don’t like offal in general, those sweetbreads look delectable. I’ll have to try them next time.

Wow, what an absolutely sub par lunch at La Cosmo today :grimacing:
I had a 1:30 reservation(my first mistake?), staff was scrambling to get the joint open on time, had to wait about 5-10 minutes to get in.
Took ages just to get a beer, took even longer to place my order. The service was a shit show. One line cook was popping food from finished plates into his mouth, in an open kitchen :man_facepalming::grimacing: I worked the line for 30+ years, in some open kitchens and that is a definite no no.
I started with the Gilda- tuna/roasted tomato/pepper/anchovy. Tasty €7
Then the Ensalada Merluza- just another Russian salad with some almost negligible fish- bottom of the list for salad russa that I’ve had so far. Ordered a half portion, but I guess they brought me the full portion €14 :man_facepalming:
Then the boneless chicken wings, which I also ordered a half portion of, that sat on the counter under the blaring A/C for some time. When it was finally brought to me I told them that I’d ordered the half portion, instead of frying up a fresh batch, they just re-plated it in front of me. They were barely warm and no better then what I can get from my supermarkets frozen food section :man_facepalming::grimacing::rofl::sweat_smile:
And they had the ballz to charge me €1.80 for a measly crust of bread that they were supposed to replenish endlessly
Skipped dessert cause I just wanted to get tf outta there. €40 for a dismal lunch
Not sure if it was bad timing or what, but there’s no excuse for a place of this “calibre “
2/10 would def not recommend YMMV and thanks for listening to my rant :rofl:

Russian “salad” seems to be the only reliable ‘salad’ on the menu where you eat. Admit it, you’re an ensalada rusa addict!

Also, eating food off plated dishes?? WOW. I would’ve been so angry about that waste of money. Hope your next meals are better!

I didn’t think it was a salad russa, the descriptions are too cool :sunglasses: No more Ensalada Russa for me.
One more meal here, downstairs because I can’t be arssed to go anywhere else, some churros for breakfast then back to Madrid for a couple of days before I jet back home.

Oh, I was angry all right. Hopefully they have secret shoppers that stop by occasionally to check up on chef Dani’s empire. What a difference between La Cosmo and La Cosmopolita.

OOOOOPS, :grimacing:
I looks like Dani Carnero (or his minions) needs to go more often to supervise his casual spin off, or at least hire a much better house manager.

I’ve eaten there twice; once on my own in March, when with a rezzie they seated me on the outdoor terrace (with heaters) and this past March with husband, again with resize but they once again seated us on the outdoor terrace. I wondered why in the world we couldn’t have sat at the counter or how one even could reserve specifically for the counter, but now I understand why!! …So we wouldn’t have to witness all the mess that you observed!

Our 2 meals were fine and service was attentive on the terrace (never walked into to the interior space). I booked on The Fork for 1:45.
We had a tapa of ensaladilla rusa (with hake rather than tuna), tartar de gambas, abanico (that special fan shaped (abanico=fan) cut of Iberian pork), tarta de queso, 4 copas for Forlong (my favorite Tierras de Cádiz white). But prices are actually higher at La Cosmo than at La Cosmopolita.
La Cosmopolita is a much better value.

One of the issues may be that because of its location on the main drag to the Picasso Museum and Roman Theater, it attracts far more tourists (and thus, one timers, and not locals, who remain loyal to the mothership). Maybe???

I was going to suggest Uvedoble tonight just for some tapas, but since you have half board at the Molina Lario, it makes sense to have your final meal there, and I’d hate for you to experience poor service once again. That last time I was at Uvedoble, seated at the counter, service left a great deal to be desired.
Hope your final meal is a much better one!

I also made reservations on The Fork for 1:30 and asked for a seat at the bar which I got, maybe that was the wrong move?Maybe reserving for their opening hour is not the best idea, but it shouldn’t make a difference. It seemed like everyone was hung over(something I know all too well during my time in the kitchens of hell ) or they forgot that they had to work that day and reservations were full!!
Anyway, every other meal here has been great, so one bad apple won’t spoil the whole bunch.
Two or three huge cruise ships docked today adding thousands of meandering zombies to the already packed streets, what a blight :confounded:
Back to Madrid tomorrow for a couple of nights, then back home.

Ay, the cruise ship arrivals!
The wait staff on the terrace appeared to be veteran waiters. Sorry you had that very bad experience but glad you enjoyed your other meals.

Hope you have a nice 2 nights in Madrid (the weather has turned here and we had a fairly chilly morning and now a chilly and windy evening) and your final meals are memorable!

A delicious and refreshing Negroni on the rooftop bar at the AC Marriott across the street helped to soothe the pain of that lunch :sweat_smile::rofl:
Nice hotel. :hotel:

We’ve stayed there as well. Views on the roof top here are slightly better as you have water views. Also The Only You on the Alameda has a cool roof top bar if you’re up for a nightcap.

Just might have to check out the Only You rooftop, thanks!

Last dinner in Malaga was downstairs at Matiz restaurant, took advantage of one last half board meal. Had the deconstructed Caesar salad, seared salmon(no photo cause it was the same salmon I had the other day) and “apple pie and ice cream “ , Malaga style.
Everything was tasty and well prepared and the service was super friendly as usual.
Too tired to go out for a nightcap after spending the morning trudging up and down the stairs of the Alcazaba
Churros for breakfast tomorrow at Casa Aranda if it’s not too busy, and gonna grab some bocadillos and sweets for the train back to Madrid.

First class all the way baby!
Bocadillios de Jamon :heavy_check_mark:
Apple custard tarta :heavy_check_mark:
Led Zeppelin Rock and Roll :metal:t2: :heavy_check_mark:
250 kph :heavy_check_mark::heavy_check_mark:
That’s how I roll :sweat_smile::rofl::tada:
2 sandwiches + the tart = €8 , probably around half the price of what Renfe Ave charges.

Thanks! It might be another Pizza Pronto night tonight, I messed up my reservations and everything is booked solid of course. Tomorrow night is Asturianos for dinner!

Just remember that when you reach the door of Asturianos, you would never guess that you’re about to enter a much loved eatery by chefs and somms. It has a totally unprepossessing appearance. It just looks on the outside like a very old, typical Madrid “mom and pop” that would never call your attention if just passing by. It has a cult status but you’d never, ever know that from its exterior. Not even remotely a fancy place!!

I hope it’s chilly enough for you to be hungry enough to order Julia Bombín’s fabada and. to put yourself in the hands of her son, the master sommelier.

Fabada sounds delicious! It’s a short 30 minute walk each way from the hotel so I’ll be able to “burn some gases “ if you catch my drift :rofl:
