Some of us take the F train at 63rd to get to Jackson Heights stop with an easy walk to, Woodside and Elmhurst. Starting 12/8, the M train will stop at 63rd instead, giving us access to Steinway St, 46th St, and Northern Blvd before it joins the F at Jackson Heights. The F ran pretty frequently, and my totally uninformed hunch is that the M will be less frequent, less reliable, and composed of older cars, but I could be completely wrong.
That said, I’m excited about what looks like fast access to Astoria and I don’t think we’ve ever actually gotten off at Northern Blvd, but I’m sure there’s some interesting food waiting for us there.
The decision to make this a weekday-only swap feels crazy. If the MTA were a private company, I’d assume the person who approved this plan would eventually get fired for incompetence. But alas, it’s the MTA, so here we are.
Best,
