This could easily be the most welcoming and impressive opening of a new Chinese restaurant north of the 401 this year!
As soon as one steps foot inside the glass enclosure entrance of this establishment. The stand alone reception area, attended by a few smiling, warm and friendly lady hostesses, exudes an aura of elegance and class offering the patrons a sense of elevated and refined hospitality treatment!
The unique, ‘closed design’ of the front-of-house dining area, incorporating only private enclosed cubicles and rooms, each with its own individual assigned name, together with minimalistic, neutral and elegant decor, helped patrons to settle into a tranquil and relaxing environment.
The wait staff were all cordial, professional and attentive.
The subsequent food order we placed with them was gorgeously prepared and executed lovingly to near flawlessness. Artistically plated and visually appealing, they were sensational and super delectable. If there is a case of near perfect Chinese food preparation in the GTA, guess we have found it!
Portions were generous in size, some even in the realm of ‘huge’. The price point was extremely fair and reasonable. However, the pace of the service was a bit on the slow side and definitely room for improvement!
For the upcoming 2026 Michelin guide. If the little red book requires a real Chinese cuisine representation/addition ( not those gimmicky or fusion ones ), then LUNA is definitely a worthy candidate.
Our party of 6 ‘over-ordered‘ the following list of yummy fare!
Cold Appetizers of:
-
Shanghainese fried smoked fish ( Little crunchy, crisp, sweet and addictive morsels. A favorite of most )
-
Drunken ‘wine marinated’ Free Range Chicken ( Slightly unseasoned and lacking the alcohol oomph!. The only low point of the meal )
-
Jellied Pork terrine ( Nice, umami delicate and refreshing )
Main entree dishes of:
-
Red Braised ‘ Dong Bo ‘ Pork with Abalone ( Really huge portion! Tasty, fattening, gelatinous goodness! )
-
Stir fried flowering chives, Bean Sprouts, Shitake Mushroom and Chinese Hunan Ham ( Lovely textural interplay. Crunchy, chewy, salty and savory )
-
Stir fried Angus Beef Steak Cubes with Dragon fruit! ( OMG! What a flavourful and spectacular preparation of beef steak cubes. Seared caramelization and tenderness at its best! Unbelievable aroma and taste profile. If there is a bite where the word ‘sublime‘ can be used, this is it! Hands down the best tasting Chinese beef dish eaten in the GTA by yours truly! )
-
Gone Pao Chicken ( Man!! Another ‘wow’ dish! What amazing seasoning and superb cooking technique. ‘Best‘ rendition of this popular spicy and savory dish encountered! At $22….a steal! )
-
Belanchan and dried shrimp stir-fried Okra ( Sensational! Lots of smokey wok-hay. As a Chinese vegetarian dish. Tasty and different! )
Enough praise handed out! Now, you folks go and give it a try!..and ENJOY!
