Low-key bistro in the 6th

Hi–Arriving on 9/18 (a Saturday) and would like to book a reservation for 3 at a low-key bistro in the 6th. The only requirements are that it be quiet (we’ll be jet-lagged), under 50 euros/person, and more traditional. I’d also like it to be bookable so I can set it and forget it. I can speak schoolroom French if that helps. Thank you in advance!

Vaganade? Tends to be quieter and very french style.

Café des Ministères - technically 7th arr but so close to the 6th (and a fairly pleasant walk on Blvd St. Germain).

Vagenende is dependable. Brasserie though, wrong spelling. You can walk around a bit and if you are an ice cream person- Angiolo on on Blvd St. Germain as well. High recommend to their mint and their pistachio. I am sure their chocolate options are great as well. DM me if you want more six info- been Paris home away from home base for years. Love the bookstore along the way stays open until 12 am. All French, but looking at cookbooks mare me happy. The worst part would be getting though the Magot and Flor section. But you could see the church at night which is pretty.

I do think that is a good choice as well. You never know what kind of Paris someone wants. I found this brasserie because during hotel life. It was one a few open new year day. Of course there is better- walked by tonight and busy- continuous service is a plus if you have no idea if you get a hungry at off hour. Ministeres might be more calm if you are aiming to more popular dining hours. Just check menus and see what suits you.

Try Maison Cluny, it’s technically still the 5th, but it’s just a few steps away from the 6th.
Or Maison de la Lozère for aligot-saucisse.

Garçon! or Brasserie des Arts.

Café des Ministères, mentioned above, is very good but also very difficult to book.

Thanks, everyone. I’m mulling over all of the suggestions and will let you know in a couple of weeks how it worked out.

Baillotte on the rue du Dragon. Some dishes are trad, some perhaps more modern.

Whether low-key or not, any bistro in the 6th which is decent is going to be busy on a Saturday night.

Check out Freddy’s for its small plates on rue de Seine. (No res though).

I might hijack this topic instead of creating my own as I’ll be also arriving on Saturday (lunch time instead) and staying in the 6th (although a little bit out of the way of St Germain proper, we’re close to the Luxembourg Gardens, basically between Montparnasse and St Germain).

We’ll be staying Saturday - Monday, so lots of restaurants are closed and I’d like to stick to dinners close to our hotel (just to make it cosy and walking distance).

Would there be any specific recommendations for anything in the bistro / brasserie, could also do one affordable-ish starred restaurant in that area?

Quinsou likely the closest starred restaurant to you. It used to be one of the least expensive Michelin starred restaurants, but I think prices may have risen. I haven’t been in a few years, but very much enjoyed it when we went. It’s open on Saturdays.

For Monday lunch, while a bit further in the 7th, I can’t recommend Géméllus highly enough. It’s open Mondays, star-worthy and at lunch an incredible bargain.

For more traditional food, Josephine Chez Dumonet is near you. It’s on the expensive side, but I still love the boeuf bourguignon and the Grand Marnier soufflé there. But closed on weekends.

I second the recommendation for Baillotte, which is open Saturdays, and also Sunday lunch.

For your starrish meal, I would suggest Ze Kitchen Galerie which is open Mondays, although close to the Seine rather than Luxembourg Gardens. We had a truly excellent meal there (5-course dinner, but I believe they have a great lunch deal) ten days ago, our last night in Paris. (Sorry guys, I’ve been truly remiss about the rest of the trip)!
