Lovely Lunch, Cafe Lola, Seattle Wa

We had to run an errand to Seattle, so decided to go out for lunch. All was perfect. Had a selection of Greek/Mediterranean Dips with pitas, honey, harissa pork kebabs with smashed, roasted potatoes, split a piece of their famed triple coconut cream pie, 2 glasses of an excellent sauv blanc for me and coffee with dessert. Excellent in all ways. Staff observed wiping surfaces constantly.

We just learned yesterday, the maven of the local restaurant empire that owns this restaurant, is shutting Cafe Lola down, as well as 11 others, leaving only his flagship, Dahlia Lounge open. This means 800 people unemployed, at least temporarily. Hard to think of the toll this crisis is taking on so many.

Out of necessity, and based on the latest advice from the CDC, I’m hunkered down at home indefinitely. In fact whole family in area is working from home except SIL, who has the choice to do so.

Lola’s is back at 4th and Virginia, across the street from Tom Douglas’s Serious Pie and Dahlia Bakery.

We thoroughly enjoyed dinner there tonight: fresh pita with both tzadziki and roasted red pepper dips, fried calmari with a green sauce, rosemary fries with two more dips - one red, one white (which I have to study so I can copy-cat). For a main I had marinated lamb kebabs and Greek salad, and he had marinated beef short ribs with sauteed peaches. It was all utterly delicious, the environment casual, and service was thoughtful, as well as quick and efficient. The tab, including tax and (a generous) tip, came in at around $130. A bargain. I’ll happily eat there again.

Now if the owner would just bring back Serious Biscuit, much more would be right with the world.
