Like it says–looking for a place on the northern part of the Jersey Shore with a view that has (some) vegan dishes and decent parking. (Rooney’s has no vegan dishes; McLoone’s has crappy parking.)
That’s a tough one, @eleeper - are you going for lunch or dinner? I would think that any restaurant that offers salads, fruit platters, and/or veg sides could accommodate making them for someone vegan (no butter, cheese, etc.). If you’re looking for a vegan restaurant I know there are listings (here’s one) but I think you’re going to be hard pressed to find one in this area with a view. Remember that water views = higher rent, so if a vegan place isn’t packing them in, I can’t imagine how anyone would afford them.
If you want to take out, my vegan and vegetarian friends LOVE Cat’s Luck, which is in Neptune right off of Memorial Drive west of Bradley Beach. They have a couple of picnic tables out in front, but there’s definitely no view. And of course, Seed to Sprout in Avon is terrific. You’ll need street parking there, but I can honestly say I’ve never had a problem finding a spot within a block.
Turns out the view wasn’t critical. (Friends are visiting, and she’s a gluten-sensitive vegan–and he doesn’t like Indian food. ) The first couple of places other people in the group suggested were McLoone’s and Rooney’s, but neither has anything vegan and gluten-free on their menu except a salad. Since we’re going for dinner, this seemed insufficient. We ended up planning to go elsewhere entirely (Olde Silver Tavern in Marlboro, which has a gluten-free vegan burger as well as other possibilities).
(I think the McLoone’s suggestion might have been because it was near the person suggesting it, and they never actually thought about dietary restrictions.)
Sorry to bother everyone here, but where else could I find people knowledgeable enough to help me?
Totally get it! And since you’re going for dinner and both Cat’s Luck and Seed to Sprout close by mid-afternoon, maybe worth a call to both to ask if THEY have any recommendations?
