I can second the rec for the TF location!
From today’s APP:
The restaurant has been sold to MJ’s Restaurant Bar & Grill, which has locations in Matawan, Middletown, Monmouth Beach, Neptune, Tinton Falls, the Bayville section of Berkeley and Spotswood. The group did not immediately respond to request for comment.
“I’m going to be here for the transition,” Michael Schoelkopf said, adding that The Sitting Duck will be open for business as usual before the restaurant group begins renovations.
David Lance DeLisa, creative director for MJ’s and a longtime customer of the Long Branch restaurant, anticipates The Sitting Duck will remain open and unchanged for approximately two months, then close for renovations with a projected September opening.
The brothers’ second restaurant, Pour House in Tinton Falls, is unaffected by the sale, and while the pandemic made for a challenging year, their decision to sell The Sitting Duck is not pandemic related. Simply put, “it was time,” Michael Schoelkopf said.
Glad to hear PH is sticking around. Just went there on Thursday for take out. Burger great as always. Baileys cheesecake was a new plus item too
I don’t think I’ve ever been to any of the restaurants discussed so I have no idea about their business models. Maybe it’s my beach town bias it seems to me not many restaurants around here close down for the summer. Especially given the tough environment of the last year. You’d think they’d want to sit as many outside diners as they could before they shut down for their reno.
We went to Pour House yesterday (because it was too early for International Mexican when we were done at the dentist). I had the Grilled Salmon Scampi; Mark had the Jumbo Crab Cakes. Both came with a cup of soup. Everything was over-salted (IMHO), but okay. However, the bill ($45 with tip for just the two lunches) seemed high for the quantity of food. I suppose this is the new reality ($45 is the new $35), but it’s hard to get used to.
