In a stark reminder to support your local mom and pop shops, the lovely couple who own and operate Lobster Baron have decided to throw in the towel. I actually cried a little when I read the news. Their shop was the best part of my new neighbourhood and definitely one of the best food shops in all of Durham.
I will miss my regular walks from my door to theirs for their wonderful seafood soups and sandwiches for lunch, the impeccably fresh fish for dinner, and beautifully crafted sauces. The great advice and warm service at Lobster Baron was what made it all the more special.
If you love a small business, let it show. If you don’t like a little mom and pop shop, be courteous and don’t harm them with a bad review. We need to show them they matter and are a part of the fabric that makes a collection of streets a neighbourhood.
