As Meatloaf once said: “You took the words right out of my mouth…”
But as Meatloaf also said “I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that”.
I concur! Just popped into Wegmans to pick up some veggies, and it looks like we’re having a blizzard tomorrow—all over the store. For S & G, I went down the paper products aisle. They are completely sold out of all toilet paper and almost all of the paper towels.
I’m starting to think that we HOs are used to keeping a fully (okay, OVERLY) stocked house on regular days and the rest of the world isn’t. I don’t know about you all, but I’m single and live alone in a small condo, but I could easily feed a family of 5 for months…
I was there last night around 8:30. I picked up some stuff to put in my chest freezer, and other assorted canned goods.
I hope I am good on toilet paper, I happened to have picked some up at BJs last week.
Booze I am def good on, although may be running low on vodka after last weekend
Says me every Monday.
Shop Rite was a madhouse so avoided it and went to the Port Monmouth FoodTown. Fully stocked. They had everything (even TP) and no lines.
While we are good on TP (ha), veggies, and non-perishables, I realized we did need more meats. With our awful schedules, I’m used to hitting the supermarket almost daily rather than bulk shopping because we don’t usually know what we want until day-of. Not the best way to live, but I’m so used to it now.
At least my bar was in no danger of running out.
Shoprite in Aberdeen very crowded, but not a madhouse–everyone very polite and friendly. Cart situation similar to Costco–all carts in use or in the parking lot. Difference was that Shoprite had long lines, except for express lanes. So I stopped at twenty items (which included half a dozen Passover items, hot chocolate, sunflower seeds, crackers, tortilla chips, granola, and dried beans). The Goya dried bean section was sparse, and my first choice (dark kidney beans) was sold out. Again, everyone seemed to be buying water.
I also picked up a roasted chicken for a few meals in the coming days. Mark is worried we will be sick of chicken by Passover, but that’s a month away. Until then, it could be tuna, chili, eggs, cheese, repeat.
No more tp
Shoprite in Old Bridge crowded, but mostly in the front cross-aisle, because they really have no space for queueing. I found most of what I wanted–for some items they were out of the Shoprite brands and had only the pricier stuff (e.g., mac and cheese, whipped butter, many kinds of canned beans, etc.). Produce fully stocked. Fish fully stocked. No 5-lb boxes of matzoh. (Given that I have plenty at home, not a problem, and I didn’t have to worry about making $50.)
Also, of course, no toilet paper or tissues (other than a dozen boxes of really expensive tissues).
BTW, flushing tissues rather than toilet paper is not a great idea–toilet paper is designed to disintegrate fairly quickly, but tissues are not. Ditto for “flushable” wipes.
Lidl hazlet was crowded but civil. Chicken was 100% gone except for frozen stuff and all pork except for sausages and bacon were wiped out.
I got 2 bags of frozen chicken breast meat there, 4.5 lbs of bacon, 2 bags of premade wings since they had none fresh, some sirloins (first time trying beef there,) brown eggs since white were gone, bluecheese for the sirloin steaks (and a bunch of other stuff but that is the main protein I remember from lidl.)
Then I went to shoprite which was packed as well, but lines moved quickly. I didnt see any crazy stuff, but this guy wins the porthole award of the day. No there was no one in it or near the car. It was parked this way…
You need to blue out my license plate
Power outage still ongoing at Lidl, Hazlet location.
Lee dul, did you know that’s how Lidl is pronounced?
Nope! I call it lie-dull… .who knew?
They’re not here in Michigan yet. But I’ll continue to pronounce it Liddle.
My neighbors six yr old say, Lint.
Gawd, how I love that song! Thank you for posting it.
