This article, though in the NYT, appears to have been written by someone based in London. But it’s quite a superficial analysis, and fails to mention this upcoming threat, which I think will affect London as well?
I know my local pubs and though I am not a regular, I know which ones I like, and which ones I would not dare enter.

The decline of the “drinking pub” - those unable to diversify into food - can be traced to the smoking ban introduced in 2007. It has particularly hit the small “local” in inner city working class areas, where the increase in the cost of booze has also affected trade.
