La Coupole is an historic brasserie with a great art deco interior. I had always thought of it as a tourist trap, but last night we went for the second time in six months, and both times were very good. My report is here.

Thanks. Haven’t been there in a long time. Any comparison you might be able to potentially add versus La Rotonde? Or Brasserie Lipp for that matter, seeing the choucrout. I always like the convivial atmosphere of these classic brasseries, though I have been limiting myself to La Rotonde for a while now.

I’ve never been to Brasserie Lipp. I’d say La Rotonde is maybe a little bit better foodwise than La Coupole, but the point is that you go to these places for the whole experience, not as a gastronomic pilgrimage.

Like Onz, we rate La Rotonde a bit higher in terms of food, where we had another great dinner just two weeks ago. (As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, the back room to the left of the stairs at Rotonde is our favorite spot there — both in terms of ambience and local restaurant theater. Especially lovely are the three “box” booths for two — tables 10, 11, and 12.)
But as recently as this past November we had a lovely lunch at La Coupole — excellent and professional engaging service; fine restaurant theater; and lovely atmosphere, seated in the middle/back of the cavernous art deco room, with vistas galore. This was at least our fifth dining experience there, yet our first in approximately 15 years. We were a bit surprised to be so happy with the fare, and hope to return soonish.
Thanks @onzieme for taking the time to write about the interesting changes at La Coupole. Like many, I used to hang out there a lot with friends eons ago. Aside from the prix fixe lunch menu, I never could have afforded the à la carte menu, But a couple of years ago, R and I had a great Sunday lunch there: I had the sole meunière (when it was not 48€) and, like Jake, we sat in the middle/back with great views of the room and the others enjoying a relaxing and convivial Sunday lunch.
